Community Standards
Code of Conduct
This Code of Conduct applies to members and guests participating in Tides of War community services. Tides exists so people can enjoy games, history, alternate history, and the company of other gamers.
Let the other guy enjoy his time here.
Written communication does not include tone of voice or facial expressions. Something intended as a joke may not be received that way. Give people some room, and think before turning a misunderstanding into an argument.
Treat people with respect
Harassment, threats, abuse, discriminatory attacks, sexually offensive behavior, deliberate intimidation, and sustained personal attacks are not acceptable. The same standard applies to text, images, links, usernames, profiles, signatures, and other community content.
Do not flood or spam the community
Do not repeatedly post substantially identical messages, mass-message members without good reason, or otherwise disrupt Tides services with unsolicited content.
Respect accounts and personal information
Do not attempt to obtain another member's credentials, gain unauthorized access to an account, impersonate another person, trick someone into surrendering account information, or collect and distribute private member information without authorization.
Respect other people's work
Do not knowingly present someone else's work as your own or distribute copyrighted material without authorization. Provide appropriate attribution when using material created by others.
Do not use Tides for unlawful or malicious activity
Tides services may not be used to facilitate criminal activity, malicious activity, unauthorized access, fraud, or similar abuse. Discussion of military games, equipment, history, and historical conflicts is part of this community; Tides is not a venue for sharing sensitive real-world operational information or encouraging real-world violence.
Leave real-world political fights at the door
Tides is a gaming community, not a political battleground. Discussions whose primary purpose is arguing contemporary politics, religion, governments, political figures, or divisive real-world events may be restricted when they interfere with the gaming community.
Historical discussion relevant to the games and subjects Tides covers is not prohibited merely because history involves politics, religion, governments, or warfare.
Advertising and solicitation
Do not use Tides primarily to advertise, commercially solicit members, or promote unrelated services without permission from Tides of War Administration.
If there is a problem, report it
Members are encouraged to bring possible violations to Tides staff rather than starting a public confrontation. Staff may review the available information, speak with people involved, and determine whether action is necessary. Context matters, and not every disagreement or mistake requires punishment.
Depending on the circumstances, action may include no action, informal guidance, a warning, temporary restrictions or suspension, or removal from the community. Serious abuse may result in immediate restriction or removal. Knowingly submitting a fabricated or malicious complaint may itself violate this Code.
The KISS principle still applies
No written Code of Conduct can anticipate every situation. Tides staff may address conduct that clearly undermines the community even when there is not a paragraph here describing that exact behavior. We will try to apply these standards reasonably and consistently.
Be nice. Be respectful. Let the other guy have fun too.
