The Allied invasion of Sicily, codenamed Operation Husky, was a major World War II campaign that took place from July 10 to August 17, 1943. The invasion saw Allied forces, primarily from the United States, Britain, and Canada, land on the island and push out the Axis powers (Italy and Nazi Germany). The operation resulted in the liberation of Sicily, the removal of Mussolini from power, and the opening of the Mediterranean Sea to Allied shipping.
