The Battle of the Bulge, the last major German offensive on the Western Front during World War II, was a surprise attack launched in December 1944 through the Ardennes Forest. The German goal was to split the Allied forces, capture key supply areas, and force a favorable peace negotiation. Despite initial success, the offensive ultimately failed due to strong Allied resistance, particularly the defense of Bastogne, and the eventual arrival of reinforcements, including General Patton’s Third Army. The battle resulted in heavy casualties on both sides and significantly depleted German resources.
