Oh I agree, I mean, who wants to pay extra? ;)
But I think if it comes down to a decision where the TAG team say "hey, we could go forward with adding this, but it's gonna double the price" and they decide to drop the entire thing because of it, then I'd rather they do this than not get it at all..
true, true.

No No No No No No No!!!

I hate the idea, I dont mind having planes in it, such as spotter planes contolled by the computer, but this is a naval combat sim and as much aa planes played a big role in battles like midway and taranto remeber this game is set before those take place and it was realiseed that planes were that effective as a strike force against ships. it is also alternative history and if taranto does not happen then it may not be realised just how effective that these planes could be.

however there is one big thing against having player controlled planes in this and that is there are too many f****** flight sims out there and if you want to fly planes go get one of them and leave us navy people to enjoy our ships in one of the few games that are for us

so No player controlled planes Please.

You make a good point, there are few strictly ship games out there, but I don't know of ANY ww2 era games that have pilotable ships and planes, so maybe enigma 2 will be the first of its kind.

Also, perhaps the plane missions could be made a non-integral part of the naval capaign (that is, have separate campaigns for planes and ships). Plus, it would be super-boring to command a carrier and send your planes miles away into battle, while you just sit there and wait for them to come back.

By the way, planes might already be include in the game, as East has hinted. (see "Engine Refactoring").

At this time I'd vote no.

My reasoning is that currently there are no CVs, land depots or other high value targets that warrant flyable aircraft. Sure aircraft harassed or otherwise targeted larger ships such as BBs but I'd like to see more emphasis on larger fleet actions. Without programming player controlled squadrons flying an aircraft or two around destroyers and cruisers is nothing but being a flying kill decal.

The scout thing is a cool idea, I think it would be necessary if/when we get into a larger pacific theater type map. Let aircraft evolve in E:RT like the PBYs in WW2. First they were souly spotters but then mutated into bombers like the Black Cats.

Until there can be concerted aircraft attacks whether in massive multiplayer or viable single player controlled squadrons I like the idea of concentrating on the size and variety of surface fleets, land, ocean depths and wx.

An important note: If we activate flyable aircraft...they will not have a "casual" flight model, they will be hardcore...and fatal if you deef it.
So would they be as complex as flight simulator aircraft (prop pitch, trim, and such?), or slightly less complicated (push the stick down: houses get bigger, pull the stick up, houses get smaller... until they start getting bigger again)?

Heh...the "no's" actually support my idea....those who don't want the planes need not buy that game.

However, I think it's very narrowminded to actually restrict yourself. Sure, you don't have to ever fly aircraft, but having that option is great. I think it should all be in the same "universe"

When multiplayer rolls around, this will really be desired...you'll see ;)

Ok I get your points about having planes in it, but what has not been dealt with is my other point. Which is the game is set around 1937 right? The history of the world is different right? So based on the fact that Germany is the dominant power in Europe and the LFN is based in the Far east. how is Tarnato or its equivilant going to take place? Because it was that battle that saw the british wipe out the Italian fleet with torpedo planes that gave the Japanese the information they needed to attack Pearl and hence the usefulness of aeroplanes in naval combat rendering the Battleship obselete.

Now the situation in the game is that there is not going to be a Taranto, although there could be ajoint LFN attack on pearl using the jap plan with the british ideas for torpedos but from what I can see the LFN would be mad to open up a war on two fronts with the Americans and the Germans as they would get crushed.
