Battleship Help, And A Mobbed Sub.

Rather than take up 2 threads, Ill use one.

first, just a breif tale....I just went on a patrol in the "tactical" section...the patrol of Africa. Picked up some contacts, so headed over for a peep. Know what I ran into? At last count, 7 destroyers, and 12 escorts. As you can imagine, alot of time was spent below 150 meters. (i got her down to 205 without any bitching from the crew! I think they are starting to trust me. ) Talk about boats coming in from every angle....Had some help from some "green" subs...but they almost torp'd me as much as the reds did....it was a real mess.

2nd item....

Im a digital submariner....I hardly ever use the surface boats. I tried yesterday, however. I approached some DE's that were protecting a few oilers....heres what i did.

Ahead 2/3rds, lit up closest target, commanded battle stations and ordered to engage, ...guns were ringing out, but i was getting absoulty pounded in return. My boat was hull up within 7 minutes. This happened twice. Is there something im missing? I just get battered out there! makes no sense to be on the surface anyway ;)

What I usually do on Patrols with Oilers, DE's or Corvettes is put 2 tubes in the water towards one of the Oilers at Flank speed, then turn my attention on the closing enemy DE's or Corvettes when they get within 900 to 1000 meters

I reverse engines and center on the closest target, pop 2 tubes forward at roughly 6 to 700 meters, then pivot in the direction of the next closing threat, pop 2 more forward tubes however on the second DE or Corvette the range is really close so you may need to pivot to make a stern shot, then if all goes well you can go after what ever else there is.

The cool thing is if you can sucker the emeny in real close they don't depth charge.

They will pop a few charges but if you are lined up right you can avoid being hit because they are popping more or less at random.

The closer they are the less they can use depth charges effectively.

When you have them in really close the major factor is lining them up and at the same time aviod being rammed.

Something you may want to try is when approaching enemy from a distance is go to spectator view, (outside the sub) then rig for dive.

When the enemy starts firing go to periscope depth (still outside the sub) when the conning tower is just above water "Hold your depth" now instead of firing from the periscope view use your conning tower to align your shots.

I did this last night with the level that has 10 DE's / DD's and managed to put 8 of them down.

With this view you can actually see where the enemy are located and use fore and aft tubes to your advantage, also they are circling you so they are too close to each other to depth charge without doing damage to you or themselves.

You can pratice this on PATROLS use the 2nd level of sub training with the 12 ships, once you get the feel of getting the sub to conning tower depth and feel comfortable with your torp. aiming then go to MISSIONS and use it on Campaigns.

Hope this helps.
