Ww1/ww2 Warships

Where and what WW1 and WW2 ships are visitable (you can walk on them) in this Day and age?

A few I know of:

DKM Prinz Eugen (yes, I know she is an upside-down wreck, but you CAN walk on her hull)

DKM Admiral Graf Spee (being raised for a museum)

HMS Belfast (Museum ship)

HMS Caroline (Training ship)

USS Arizona

USS New Jersey (Museum ship)

SS Jeremaih O'Brien WW2 Capital ship (San Fransisco)

USS Pampanito (SS-383) WW2 Sub (San fransisco)

USS Intrepid WW2 Aircraft Carrier (New york)

USS Texas BB 35 1914 Dreadnought Battleship (Houston, TX)

Mikasa Predreadnought Battleship (Yokosuka)

M33 WW1 Bombardment Monitor (Portsmouth) Drydocked you cant go on board but you can see all around sited next to Victory

HMS Cavalier WW2 Destroyer (Chatham)

To name but a few

USS Missouri (Hawaii), can walk around/through the ship

USS Cavallo (Fleet Sub GATO Class)

USS Stewart - Buckley class DE

Both in Galveston, TX

HMCS Sackville - the last Flower Class Corvette, as far as we know, moored up as a museum ship at Halifax, Nova Scotia, and maintained by the Canadian Naval Memorial Trust. HMCS Sackville website

Also the WWII River Class Frigate HMS Windrush, now the French La Decouverte fire training ship. Perhaps imminently to be scrapped (appalling if this happens) and beached close to Cherbourg. USS Wisconsin (Iowa-class BB) in Virginia (Norfolk?)

USS Alabama, USS ?? (WWII US sub) , Mobile AL (Also the LST museum with a WWII LST there)

SS American Victory- 2nd Victory ship built, now restored to seaworthiness and engines/boilers rebuilt. They actually take her out on special tours. Tampa FL.

USS Razorback - Little Rock(?) Ark WWII sub that stayed on the roster and was upgraded to a Guppy.

I failed to mention: no carriers or subs.

You might want to visit the Museum of Western Australia's web-site. I don't think they have a WW2 ship you can walk on but they have plenty of info about the Allies in the Pacific. (Aust, NZ, USA, UK and Dutch)

Three that I have visited in addititon to those already mentioned.

Royal Australian Navy ASW Frigate Diamantina currently berthed in the dry dock at the Queensland Maritime Museum. adjacent to the Central Business District.



USS Air Craft Carrier Intrepid is a sea-air-space museum in New York City.

Personal favourite: San Diego Harbour.

There are no WW2 ships available to tour however:

- USS Naval Seals train on the beach in near the Hotel del Coronado.

- The US submarine fleet can be photographed (at a distance) from Point Loma.

- The entire US Pacific Fleet is based out of SD. Each weekend one ship is open for a walking tour.

Note sure what you mean by "no carriers or subs". You didn't want to know of them or you were questioning why there were none?

Why?

I am not a big fan of Carriers or Subs, but they are still interesting to visit.

Can I add HMS Victory as she was still afloat during world war 1 and is still in commission:)
