Whats Your Fav War Film?

As far as WWII goes Patton followed by A Bridge to Far. Hollywood needs, to make a "good" PTO movie. Maybe about Guadalcanal.

Other than that I think Blackhawk Down (yes not a classic) is my fav new war movie.

I can't begin to wonder how many people have fogotten any war movie that has "The Duke" in it. I know people mentioned "In Harms Way" but what about:

The Fighting SeaBees

The Green Barets

The Sands of Iwo Jima

The Flying Leathernecks

And so many others. John Wayne was THE War persona. Don't get me wrong, others have done good: Clark Gable of instance. 2 good movies of his are

Run Silent,Run Deep (witch was mentioned before)

Command Decision (B-17 General)

Richard Burton & Clint Eastwood in Where Eagles Dare

A big all star cast (too many to mention) in The Battle of the Bulge

Hell, even Cary Grant had 3 good WW II movies. Needless to say the last 2 are comedies:

1. Destination: Tokyo (If you pay attention to one of the sub diving scenes. it's the same scene that was used in Run Silent, Run Deep)

2. Father Goose

3. Operation Pettycoat ( one of my favorite comedies that also had Tony Curtis in it)

So you see there are many good ones out there. But please, let us not forget the greatest War Actor: JOHN "THE DUKE' WAYNE.

Ahhh, good to see "Operation Petticoat". My dads (Fletcher Class) destroyer the USS Wren #568 was used in the filming. It's the destroyer trying to depth charge the pink submarine. I would have included it in my list if not for the fact that it was a comedy. By the way, Magnum PI used footage of the Wren from this movie in an episode called "Operation Silent Night" during the 80's.

The Wren was sold and scrapped in the early 70's and my mom almost had a heart attack when she saw the big 568 plowing through the waves in the Magnum PI episode. After a lot of research I found out they had used film from the older Operation Petticoat. Tony Curtis was the co-star in this movie.

I also used footage from the movie for a 50th anniversary party for my folks which was yesterday. Came out really cool mixed in with all their old photo's & 8mm film clips.

not my fav, but i did work on thin red line. good experience the art dept rebuilt one of the island airfields in mossman up in far north queensland in oz. are to be surrounded with all this vintage us army gear. most of which was still brand new had just been stored.

Sorry guys, have to go with this classic.........I'm partial to any Cary Grant movie anyways....just so happens he played in this one :D

Just watched The Battle of River Plate it was on tv yesterday but had to record it:) great film!!

The Cruel Sea is the best Navy film of its time. Also The silent Enemy about Lynol 'Buster' Crabbe GM OBE who was a mine disposal expert in the Gibralter straights.

NB he was the famous diver who went missing after spying on a USSR ship in Portsmouth Harbour. My late father was his kit man and one of his best friends too.

Sally bought me "Bridge Over The River Kwai" and "The Eagle Has Landed" for Christmas.
