Lfn - Surface Mission #6

Any clues about the LFN surface mission 6 (milchcows)' date=' I can get 75% but struggle to complete mission.  Orders seem to have little effect on my 'colleagues'.
I've had to go against my best instinct and start to play IG and US.... [/quote']
The only trick to that mission is how good you are with your torpedoes on a medium shot.  When you win it takes less than 60 seconds.  Most of our guys took abut 15 tries to get it - some  still haven't.
Cheers East.  That makes me feel better!  My stats for missions attempted is very very poor now....  I just have to trust my distance shooting and move onto the next target.
As a side effect of feeling that I needed to change sides to continue to enjoy the game I've been exposed to all sides of the story which has made it much much more interesting....

Has anyone managed to beat this one yet cos Im damned if I can do it. Love to hear from someone who has managed it. I cant even aim the torps off these damn MTBs properly let alone get 4 subs with 4 torps in 1 minute.

First of all' date=' figure out what angle the torps leave the tubes at. Remember that there are two per side, but the angle is basically the same for both. Once you know that, get into the mission. Go full speed and set you binocs at that angle on one side. Take out the first two subs with the torps on that side. After the second, quickly switch to the other side and hit the other two subs. Remember that the torp travels a bit faster than the normal ones, so you can shoot from a little further out, if you want to save some time.
I'll let you try to figure the angle by yourself for now. Can't give away all the info, since its more fun figuring it out by yourself. [/quote']
good tip' date=' i wish i'd worked that one out.  I suceeded in the end by using the external view lined up at torp angle.[/quote']

I found that the tip on using external view _very_ useful. I tried doing it with binoculars, but found that in the stress of swapping from one side to another I would inevitably overshoot the correct heading. With the external view, you can just make sure the tube is straight and pointed at the target, then call the fire.

Though this probably only will work if you use voice controls...

I have a really dumb question ... HOW do you fire the Torps????
Jim
First you have to rotate the tubes to either side, that is done by:

A: saying "TUBES PORT" or "TUBES STARBOARD" if youre using voice commands

B: click on the HUD left or right of the slider with the Torps indicator lights.

To fire..:

say "FIRE TUBE" or "LAUNCH TUBE"

or click on a green indicator light.

or open the targeting binoculars and look to the same side as you turned the tubes, and when you got a green angle you can:

say "FIRE TUBE" or "LAUNCH TUBE"

or click space or click on any of the green indicator lights (upper right corner now).

Thanks for the input .

I tried  saying  "tubes port"  nothing happened

the same with  "tubes starboard"

any Ideas?

Jim
yes it does work, you cant see it visually unless you are in spectator mode and looking at the tubes, then you can see them turn, and of you zoom in close enough you can also hear it.

(you should also get a little confirmation note in the log window.

Actually the voice commands for the PT boat and MTB are different from those for the destroyers. The commands, off the top of my head, are:

Fire Port Torpedo {number}

and

Fire Starboard Torpedo {number}

I suggest you do some speech training on the computer first since I found that it didn't initially recognize what I was saying, which led to serious frustration the first couple of times I ran through this mission.

Something quite annoying -- all the other torpedo capable weapon systems have a cone of fire and targeting binoculars but the torpedo boats don't. This makes life a _lot_ harder, which I assume is the point. Given how obscenely fast the boats are, it'd seem too easy to just aim from 1500m and speed away without ever being hit...

Once you get used to lining up the tubes vertically in external view, though, the mission becomes a _snap_.
