Lan Support Is Needed

If you read my previous comment clearly .  I stated it does not inform you of the massive multi or single player at all.  I'm looking at the box right now.  Nothing about multiplayer, massive multiplayer,  or that it is only single player unless you pay 10 dollars a month. It is quite obvious that is is singleplayer. It is misleading.  I only found out about the massive multi after I opened the box and read the back of the cd case.
So you're complaining that you've discovered there's a lot more to the game than you thought when you originally read the outside box and bought it as an SP game only?

Maybe it's the bends.

Hey Top,

We welcome all suggestions, but recognize that including with the suggestion the claim that without LAN support you could never recommend it you turn it into a post that will draw some fire. A LAN version wouldn't let us be able to upgrade the game overtime and provide more than what you are paying for. A Lan version for Enigma would pretty well turn it into a 1 or 2 release title and that's it.

You talk about not being willing to spend 10$ per month for a subscription, that's nuts. You get more value and gameplay from a subscription than you could ever get from a single 40 or 50 dollar game. $50.00 is 4 or 5 months worth of gameplay plus it INCLUDES free regular upgrades we make for the game PLUS we give away the multiplayer client PLUS if you purchase a copy of a singleplayer version we INCLUDE 30 days of multiplayer at no cost. Where's the problem?

Keep offering suggestions, we're glad to hear them, even if all players aren't.

Thanks East. I appreciate your good answer. I love the game, I think it is great. A first class game. I guess I will have to wait to version 2 comes out for LAN support, Which is fine. I have already paid 50 dollars for the retail version and to only include thirty days of free play online seems a bit short, seeing that I have already supported the software title, through the purchase of the single player version. Anyhow, I will still enjoy the game on a single player basis. I will try out the multiplayer, thats where I'll need to be convinced. You have already at least sold me on trying the multiplayer where before you commented the game nearly got returned to the store, I was pretty mad at the comments above(overeaction)

Thanks again

That's $120 a year. That's not peanuts, especially for kids or students. Come to think of it, I don't find that cheap either for playing a single PC game, after purchasing a retail copy.
You get more value and gameplay from a subscription than you could ever get from a single 40 or 50 dollar game.
But you get more value from an SP and MP game that allows players to run dedicated servers at no cost to players.

IMO, pay for play will greatly limit the size of the community in a game like this. A lot more would be attracted if, after paying the purchase price, they could join MP games at no charge, like the majority of today's games.

The up-side is that hopefully, only mostly serious players will be willing to shell out the money. That may limit or slow down the number of potential game hackers that can negatively affect the game with cheats and trainers.

On the other hand, in mature gaming communities, this is done by establishing reputable teams and letting them police themselves.

For me, it sounds like I'll defintely try out the MP for a month or two but, considering my limited time playing online, I might not be interested in keeping on paying for this, even if it's as good as it sounds.

Time will tell if you chose the right revenue strategy for keeping this game alive. IMO, you're on the wrong path.

HHHmmm... good points. I have to agree, if I do keep playing it online after the 30 days er up it`ll be the first time I`ve paid extra cash to play online. I have paid my dues with the last game I got into for 4 years, by testing and helping with the mods, making maps etc. That is just to better the game, so don`t tell me that a good game needs paid support. Sudden Strike 1 and especialy 2 by CDV would have been total dogs without the modding communities. (some of whom where eventualy rewarded financialy by CDV for the last version of the APRM mod) If the community is large enough it will develope "addons" on its own. (granted I think this game harder to work on than many others)

I would think it should at least be possible to set up a dedicatd server for clans (or battle groups or whatever they will be called).

I would however be willing to pay out 10$ a month for some one else to do all that work. If they have new units, maps, updates etc. (and personaly some sort of "realism" mod or update) it will be worth it. I know how much work it is Iv`e been there.

I'm currently gathering some sample statistics that may reflect on the potential outcome of Enigma's planned MP charging scheme. Stay tuned.........

Basically you're saying that you, an individual, are willing to pay $120 per year omg: for a modification or expansion of an existing game that costs $40 shrinkwrapped off the shelf?

Are you sure?

I wouldn't!
