I just want a chance to force subs into tight quarters once or twice. Imagine chasing one over some 100m shoals and then letting rip with a full pattern at 10m increments...

And I'd love to shell some fixed targets.

I bet MTB guys would love surfing waves onto the beach, too. Apparently my grandfathers' MTB squadron at Scapa Flow did that for fun sometimes, as practice for saving the ship. His MTB actually did get torpedoed, and they actually did beach it above the tideline before it sank. Neat story.

Won't we need a map so we can plot a course for land. All the ships have now is sonar/radar. If we had a large world map we could steam to different ports for repairs, or to defend/ attack it,.... and know were everything is, including.....ally bases, ships, merchant traffic lanes, last known enemy group position that would be gathered from spotter planes.

If the war is to progress at all, there has to be land in it. Ships could blast each other all they want, but without troops taking ground, it really doesn't do much. I personally would love to run amphibious assaults, port blockades, and shore bombardments. Having the war progress through capturing of ground would add a ton of strategy and tactics to the mix for anyone ranking higher than captian. :D

It will be great to be able to bottom out in a submarine. Plus land can give smaller surface vessels a place to hide from larger ships with a deeper draught. Another land related idea for subs is the ability to be damaged enough not to be able to surface. You can see your sub sink but if you hit the ocean floor (and don't die from impact) before you reach maximum depth then your crew can repair so you can surface and try to flee. Of course factors like batteries and air will come into this as well.

Land would help destory submarines, aside from running them ashore and as long as you had a depth-meter. If you could tell it was 50m deep, then you don't have to waste your time sending pegs to 200m.

A problem with this, though, is you'd have to make coral reefs, holes, caves, seeweed, and, well, you get the idea.
