Check List

1:) Install Patch v3.0.0 if you dont have v3.0.0 installed allready.

2:) Make sure you have the latest available drivers for atleast your Videocard, Soundcard, & Motherboard installed

3:) Install the latest version of Microsoft? DirectX

4:) Turn OFF Antivirus/Trojan Software (or exclude your Enigma folder(s) from being scanned), and/or disable other heavy resource eating background applications.

Apps you can keep running: mIRC, MSN, Jabber, ICQ, FTPd/FTP(if they read from a different drive than Enigma). + other low resource apps

5:) Lower the Sound Hardware Acceleration to 'Basic' or 'None'.

Click: Start->Run and type 'dxdiag' and hit 'Enter' or click 'OK' - In the DXDiag window click on the 'Sound' tab and move the acceleration leveler to basic or none, then click on exit and start Enigma: Rising Tide.

6:) Run AdAware "Free Download", Scandisk(Win98/98SE/ME), Chkdsk (WinNT/2K/XP), Disk Cleanup & Sophos AntiVirus "3 Months Trial"

7:) Change Windows's control over your page/swap file so that you control it.

Win98/98SE/ME: Right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties" and click on the "Performance" tab, then click on "Virtual Memory" and move the radio button from "Windows Control" to "User Defined" then Change the Min & Max values to 1024MB. Click apply and ok, then reboot.

WinNT/2K/XP: Click Start->Settings & Printers->Control Panel->System and then click on the "Performance" tab then click on "System Cache" and click on "Change" For the virtual memory control and change the values Current and Max to 1024MB.

If you have several Harddisks then move your Pagefile to a partition/harddrive that doesnt have Windows or Enigma on it, (eg when Windows is on C:\ and ERT is on D:\ then put pagefile on E:\). Click apply and ok. (Reboot if asked to).

8:) Make sure you have all the patches installed.

9:) Install Enigma: RT. To a different drive if you have 2 Harddisks.

1 Harddisk Partioned as 2 makes your system slower on the overall so avoid that.

10:) When you ask for support here be sure to include all this information but not limited to:

CPU Power: [?]

RAM Amount: [?]

VideoCard + Driver Version: [?]

SoundCard + Driver Version: [?]

Windows Version: [?]

DirectX Version: [?]

Enigma Version + Patches (Demo\Retail\Pirated): [?] (If Pirated dont even bother to ask)!

etc Lets get as much info as possible

11:) IRQ Settings Win2000/XP only

A: Right click on My Computer and select Properties

B: Select the Hardware tab and select 'Device Manager'

C: Click on 'View' Go to 'Resources by Type'

D: Click on the "+" sign beside 'Interrupt Request (IRQ)'.

E: Print it out or write it down.

Check down the list that the graphic card and sound card is on its OWN IRQ (if it is shared with PCI Steering, this is ok) (Note that PCI Steering is a device).

If not, then power off and physically move the OTHER card(s) / device(s) to another PCI slot.

Boot up, Windows, it will redetect your hardware, rebbot when needed.

Boot up again, check the IRQ settings, if they are still sharing, you will need to enter your BIOS, and manually assign IRQs to your PCI slots, so they arent set to auto.

Remember that altering BIOS settings is at own risk!

If your computer cant boot up/start windows properly, then go back to BIOS and undo settings or assign other IRQs for each slot.

In your BIOS you have a menu named "PNP(PCI) Config" (or smilliar) enter this menu

PNP OS = NO

Resource Control = Auto ESCD

PCI/VGA Pallete Snoop = Disabled

Assign IRQ for VGA = Enabled.

Assign IRQ for USB = Enabled (If you have any USB devices).

Now select manual control over the IRQ settings.

Check your printed list to find a free IRQ# for each slot.

There is in most BIOS's a little note window to the right that tells which devices that uses the IRQ#.

A typical example of a motherboard with 1 AGP & 6 PCI slots would be:

Note that when you count there is 7 slots (6 PCI + 1 AGP).

PCI0 being the AGP port shares IRQ with PCI6 (Thats Slot0 & 6 when you count them)

PCI1 shares IRQ with PCI5 (Thats Slot1 & PCI5)

PCI 2, 3,4 is unshared by default. There is usually a little window to the right telling you which devices uses which IRQ's, but likely they share IRQ with otheer devices, such as the PCI Bridge or System Timer etc, you can easilly see what IRQs shares what in Windows as stated above.

An example could be:

BUS0, DEV7 FUNC1 & DISP CNTRLR BUS1 DEV0 FUNC0 (thats IDE Slot0 + AGP Port)

Basically you have to mangle the settings around til you get an optimal solution where AGP and SND isnt on the same as other critical devices.

You can always mail me with attachment of your IRQ settings etc, so I can help you out.

12:) Turn off Windows Power Managemant & Screensaver.

13:) Set your Videocard configuration to use application controlled AntiAliasing and Antistropic Filter.

14:) Microphone Issues:

Make sure your mike is plugged in to the correct jack outlet on your Soundcard.

Make sure you have installed the Enigma-sAPI (its on the CD) If you got Win98/98SE/ME you need to run the *.exe file from \cdrom\win98 in order to be able to install the *.msi file from the \cdrom\speech\ folder.

Click Start->Settings & Printers->Control Panel->Speech (Win98/98SE/ME: its Start->Settings->Control Panel). then click on "input", from the pulldown select your Soundcards Wave Device, click on "OK" click "Train Profile" and complete atleast 2 tests, so Windows will recognize your voice/accent. (Preferly you should complete them all, and to make it even more perfect do them twice).
