After realizing that the unstated objective of this one is to keep the Kaiser Wilhelm afloat' date=' I tried several times to do just that by ordering up to 3 and 4 boats at a time (surface and sub) to protect her while I take my boat on the offensive. No good, she still goes down and I lose. Is there a tactic I'm missing here? Any suggestions from veteran kriegsmariners?[/quote']My objectives are the following:
"(Z-500) The Kaiser Wilhelm is pursuing the Hood. Provide her with escort protection. Be especially vigilant. The Americans may be allied with the RNE."
but it seems impossible to succeed in this mission ... im surrounded of dd's and while im fighting them ' date=' after about 4-5 minutes a message appears that the kaiser wilhem seems to be damaged and releases her life-boats ... mission failed
Im not able to go on , and it would be nice if one of you is able to help me[/quote']
I chose to play IGN my first time through.
This mission was a tough one. It took me three tries. The key is to order other boats to work for you. I assigned 4 or 5 ships' date=' uboats and destroyers, to protect the battleship while I ordered others to go on the offensive, along with myself. You absolutely won't succeed without using your allies. Fortunately, by the time you get to this level, you will have achieved sufficient rank to effectively command about half the vessels on the map (or more).
Even with help from my AI companions, it didn't work the first time I tried it. You have to be good AND lucky.
Also, don't forget to reassign duties after an action is completed, i.e., if you order a destroyer to attack and it defeats its target, immediately give it another task, such as guarding the Kaiser Wilhelm (a good choice, since surface ships are better equipped to fight PT boats than subs are).

Replaying all missions over again, and found this one really hard .
Maybe it takes several tries .
Not 100% sure if I completed it earlier , as I deleted some . ! #

This is where I'm stuck. Tell me more about your success in beating this one.Replaying all missions over again, and found this one really hard .

This is one I am concentrating on now.
I might have succeeded before. I should have kept old files .
I tried ordering ships to protect etc . and Tried attacking the torpedo boats .
It doesn't take long for the lifeboat message to appear . !
I will keep trying .

It's certainly a tough one, but doable. I found you have the best chance of survival if you can command some ships to attack a destroyer, and by doing that they will have to move past your position, which you keep more or less on a stable course. This will give you quite some cover against any PTG's while you keep pouring one torpedo barrage (tip: DO practise that A LOT during patrols) after the other into any destroyer that does come close. Also keep an eye on not killing any friendlies, since they are passing you on their way to attack.
Any PTG that does pop up and survives your deckguns is an amazingly easy prey to a torpedo itself btw, especially up close.
About firing surface torpedos:
Try this little voice routine, I found it very fast:
TUBES TO STARBOARD (or TO PORT)
BINOCULARS (click on they eye for either STARBOARD or PORT view)
UP TACTICAL (this will keep the same view position!)
use your wheelmouse for fast zooming and targetting
use spacebar to fire torps
if your targets move out of the firing angle, HARD TO PORT or STARBOARD for a few secs and HOLD COURSE. Finish torpedoes.
BINOCULARS again, click the forward view eye and with BINOCULARS one more time you're back to normal viewing mode, checking your map.
Repeat if necessary.
If you get even a bit good at this, your torpedoes will do most of your real killing.

Boy, does this game get 10/10 for pure addictiveness....

I can survive , but the Prince Edward doesn't !
I think you mean the Kaiser Wilhelm III? The PE sank one mission back...
Anyway: you keep yourself and half the escorts around KWIII, and the rest attacking a destroyer in the back of their pack. On the way to attacking that destroyer, they have to pass your position.
This effectively kept the KWIII alive, and gives your attacking ships a good chance of rapidly killing off the DD's: these have to take so much evasive action (or are taking direct hits) because of your torpedoes that they are sitting ducks to any deckfire from your part, or your neighbours. Never notice how annoyingly slow-moving evasive action can be? You're spinning hard going nowhere, target practice for any 5'' within range. An onrushing DD in your sight suddenly becomes something frantically trying to pussyfoot its way out....
Surface torpedoes are tops. With the routine described above you waste no time panning around, just keep moving targets roughly to within your port or starboard firing angle, and start pumping them out. While they reload you're back to watching where you're going with just 2 words and one click. It's just a matter of knowing where everyone else is, roughly, and whether a 'launch window' on either side is coming up.

Yes The Kaizer Wilhelm !
Thanks.
I will try this.

OK fellas
Im on this one now. Having no probs with KW going down, yet, but I do have a question. There is supposed to be a sub with stolen cipher technology, and Im sposed to sink it. but then theres the whole american fleet to contend with as well, what exactly is the objective here? save the kw, defeat everyone, or sink the yellow submarine{ with Ringo at the helm} ?

There's different starting-placements for the ships... some are much harder than others, I found. Best bet in hard ones is to wait with your battle stations, until you've got behind some cover. You CAN go down purdy quick...
Run - Stay alive - Let your ships do the dirty work - Keep running and pumping torps - Stay alive - Keep the KW in one piece - Stay alive - Wait until the message comes in that the Americans (sic) are retreating - Sink the Yellow Sub.
In my last one the Hood suddenly was gone. Hit by a friendly torpedo, according to my log.
Aint that a bitch.
