First Impressions...?

#1
I am seeking your opinions guys (and gals).
I haven't bought this game yet and I was thinking of getting it this weekend.? However, I am slightly cautious as it has had (very) mixed reviews...

The demo was fun, but limited...? I assume the full game is an improvement?

One disappointing review claimed that the campaigns were not dynamic and that the missions were scripted - ie. not random.? Is this true?? If so, it is a cardinal sin for combat sims...

All opinions gratefully received friends...

Cheers.
Regarding dynamic missions, etc.
We've had to take a different approach than many sims.? Primarily because our goal is to get you into battle within 2 minutes generally.?

1 - Campaign missions are "staged"? This means we determine who is going to start where approximately and have assigned some orders (like telling the AI corvettes to start in ESCORT mode for a convoy).?

2 - The number of vehicles that appear in any campaign are carefully balanced to make the mission winnable.? Our AI is very good and is allowed to make it's own decisions.? AI Commanders carry random variables for their aggressiveness and compliance with standing orders.? Some commanders will stay on task, others will abandon their tasks and come hunt you down regardless of their orders.

The end result are missions that have a particular flavor and and initial starting setup, but they playout almost COMPLETELY different every time you play them.? Part of this is because of our AI structure, part of it is due to dynamic weather.? You may play one time with calm seas and clear skies, next time it may be a stinking hurricane and believe me, that makes the experience completely different each time.

If we didn't balance the number of friendly and enemy ships in a scenario, because of our approach to AI, some missions would be way too easy, others would be IMPOSSIBLE and nothing is more frustrating to someone who pays money for a game than to find that a mission/level/etc. is unwinnable.

We did make some tradeoffs here, but if you play it, you will see that when people call it scripted (like the jackasses from PC Gamer UK and PC Zone UK who obviously didn't play the game), they are really grossly misrepresenting the nature of the gameplay.

LOL you pwned them East
I never trust magazines. A high scoring game followed by a 2 page advertisement always seems fishy to me ;)
i think it was pc gamer uk who reviewed "hitman" ( great game imo ) at 48% just because its wasnt a first person shooter

I always play demos and dont read reviews. Downloading the enigma demo was best thing ive done in a long time ;)
Roger that.
Many thanks for your responses guys...
