NEW ToW IL2 Squadrons .. !

#1
ToW used to have some pretty good squads working from our airfield. Then.. the enemy came with a sneak attack the likes of Dec. 7th .. and boom our airfields and carriers were out of action.

Now, we have all that repaired. SeaBees been working like mad!

PART 1

ToW is looking for IL2 Pilots both experienced and rookie.

ToW Squad 1 = New and rookie pilots + some vets for Instructors and Leadership. v4.08m Standard Close to real, but not historical.

ToW Squad 2 = Experienced pilots looking for all that 'real environment flying on advanced servers. FISC. Historical. v4.09m + +

These squad will be PTO (Pacific Theater of Operation)

ToW will be starting TWO squads, so if your interested in being a leader on a start up squad .. this is the place to reply.

If your a new pilot and are looking to join a squad of new pilots of equal skills and grow together .. this is the place to reply.

OK.. now for PART II

To call these squadrons: Squad 1 and Squad 2... wont cut it. What we need is a "name" for each squadron. Right now we are collecting suggestions from those who happen upon this post, have interest in ToW, etc. We plan to start these squads up around June of 2009. Now is the time to do the ground work, find names for these squadrons, leaders and instructors as well as define a character of sorts for each.

Squadron names don't have to be real or historical. The "TAG" for these squadron will be similar to: ToW:SQR_YourName where SQR is a 2-3 letter abbreviation for the squadron name (not set in stone and may be simply "ToW" regardless of squadron because 'skins' can take care of a squadron ID).

So.. got a name to submit?

1) 27th Fighter Squadron - Fighting Eagles (LJ)

2) 1st Pursuit Group, 2nd, 3rd, etc (Fuby)

3) Velvet Knights (Talon)

4) Fighting Fourth Elite (Talon)

5)

6)

7)

8)

9)

Well, seeing these are the first ToW tagged squads... maybe....

1st Pursuit Group - 2nd Pursuit Group ToW:1PG Tow:2PG

The United States aggregated its fighter squadrons into Pursuit Groups of four squadrons - in theory totaling 72 aircraft and an equal number of pilots.

The reality was that it was rare for the number of pilots to equal the number of aircraft or for the aircraft to be fully standardized across an entire

group. The first two operational fighter squadrons were the 94th and 95th aero squadrons . They started operating together.

To those two squadrons, there were quickly added two more aero squadrons, the 27th and 147th.

Together the four were wrapped into the 1st Pursuit Group - as this first fighter group was called.

While the groups and squadrons were referred to as pursuit units of different types, the aircraft themselves were called "scouts" or the more

familiar (to us now) "fighters". Yet it was this leading letter "P" of the word "Pursuit" which was responsible for naming fighter aircraft P-51 and so on.

I think Fuby had a valid point.
Good question... with no immediate answer .. because we don't know what the pilots really want as yet.

My Guess.. yes to fighter wings.

My Guess.. yes to dedicated bomber wings.

Types of fighter wings and bomber wings .. ::shrugs::..

Personally.. I want to fly the A10 and torp some ships. I would also like to get with the heavy boys and learn those 4 engine jobs and how to properly "bomb" on target. .. ..

wow..didnt think of that...IL-2 has sooooo many type planes and ways to play... gotta think again..

Would also like to try out those bombers someday...

like after I can takeoff and land everytime with the smaller planes..lol

but I guess a pursuit group could have bombers..:)

"You can run but you can't hide from the pursuit groups!!" <--rated PG

I actually have my X52 set up for bombing. I also made a conversion table of indicated air speed, altitude, and true air speed so that I can be pretty accurate (6 pages- Alt 1000ft to 43500 by 250ft/ea, IAS 150 to 675 by 25/ea). Took a few runs before I realized that i didn't have to hit a button after I had everything set up - just watch and pray! I'm not going to say it is harder or easier than a dogfight. They both have their different skill sets. A war can't be one with either by itself.

I was always playing with fighters in games along the way, but I really like the challenge of the bombers that I have experienced in trying to get used to that whole system.
