Gentlemen..
MCVG-2 held its first official training event for Wednesday 11-12-08. The map used was the Guam Training Area that supports air to air and air to ground mission sorties. Game version: 4.08 Mod. Aircraft used, F4U 1D Corsair
Those pilots who attended were the following:
1. Bosti
2. Lobo
3. Ranger
Instructor: Rino
The focus of this training mission was to work on Squadron Collective tasks such as ground taxi and forming up as a Flight sized element on the runway, conducting pre take off checks, receiving the mission and how to execute the mission properly as well as taking off in formation and climbing out to clear the airspace of the training airfield.
Enroute to the "Training Range", the Flight changed headings and formations on command. Flight members scanned for any surface contacts such as ships as well as any bogies that might be in the area.
Having arrived at the first Rally Point, the Flight circled and a pilot head count was conducted. One pilot had to RTB due to an "engine malfunction" so Red-4 (Ranger) filled the slot. With the remainder of the pilots on board, the Flight then flew North to find an enemy ship convoy where a skip bombing attack was conducted before egressing out of the target area to the next Rally Point before returning to base to land. At the end of the sortie, an AAR or After Action Review was conducted on what took place and how we can better execute the same type of mission in the future.
Those that participated enjoyed the sortie and learned something in the process. I know I sure did. Good job everyone.
CHANGE OF MISSION....................................................
The Post Training Sortie found the following pilots flying in Zekes vs. Wildcats;
1. Bosti
2. Ranger
3. Rino
4. Lobo
We flew two different map rotations and worked on the basics of covering each other while in flight. We had excellent Situational Awareness (SA) as well as communication between each other. Some mistakes were made but victories as well. We attribute those victories to excellent team work and covering each other properly. One of the highlights of that portion of the flying was the use of the "Rally Point".
Unfortunately, at one point, we experienced one particular guy who decided that he was going to start Chute Killing out of spite and I was his victim. Once that happened, he was singled out and a mass effort was made to find and to shoot down this individual repeatedly. When the map rotated over into the next map, I believe it was Wake Island map, not sure, Ranger, Bosti and myself moved forward and actually suppressed the enemy land airfield and destroyed all air defenses on the island. All the Flak guns were found and snuffed out. As a result, this base was now suppressed and there was nothing that the Chute Killer could do since he was left all alone to fend for himself. I guess you had to be there to see what actually took place and why it happened but Chute Killing isn't an acceptable form of airmanship in this type of online game.
In any event, each and every time that this guy tried to take off, he was shot down either in flames or having to bail and hang in his chute. After he fell victim to being shot in "His Chute", he hopefully learned his lesson but you could tell he thought all this air combat was just too funny for him. He tried to taunt us with some broken English but we maintained our focus and suppressed the airspace around his "base". Of course, this guy left the server without saying a word out of respect to us.
Eventually, we started to land our planes on the enemy base to make a point that we now owned the place and we set up shop in the former enemy HQ on the strip. This mission definitely goes down in the record books for an "airfield seizure". Good job everyone !!!
