Gents,

Recently I received a resignation letter from Tango. His reasons for resignation are posted below for your review.

I will only leave this post as 'viewable' for the next week to two weeks as I don't want this topic dangling on our forums forever. You are invited to make response .. good or bad. What this is all about is the allegations made by Tango and if we need to make any changes here at BSS. This is YOUR squad .. not just mine.

In short Tango says we USED to be a friendly bunch of guys and that now we are dictators and that I send out threats via email, and that we don't put RL first.

I want to respond first that we will remove Tango from our squad list as requested within a few days if Tango does not change his mind. If there are things we need to change .. I'm open and let us do so. I'll make a few comments then post Tango's email at the bottom. If any of you feel inclined to contact Tango and repair the relationship .. please do. I have sent him email to re-consider, I won't be sending any more to him at this point.

As the CO of this wonderful group of guys, it is important that I take my CO responsibilities seriously. I owe that to the group when I take on the CO position. It would be far more fun and much less work on me if I could just go fly .. instead of taking hours of maintenance time to keep the squad in good shape. It is the responsibility of a CO that when they see a potential problem .. they bring it to the attention of the squad in total and make attempt to 'fix' said problems.

I happen to like Tango a lot, but sorry, I feel his response is totally wrong. In fact I think he's not ever really read anything here on the forums .. or really talked and communicated with any of us. If he had really done so .. he would have found many post here that indicate RL first, Not many rules at all .. however "Muster Up" is one such rule. BSS does not require much or ask much of its pilots .. but we do ask that all pilots communicate with us once a month in some form.... even this we are 'easy' on. How can I do my job as CO if we don't know who we can count on for matches etc? There is no rule that says if you can't make a match or number of matches your "out" like many squads have .. no, we simply say "be there if you can". No pressure. RL comes first. Always has been. We simply want to hear from all once a month .. that simple.

We have never run BSS like the military. However since we are a 'squad' we do have a light structure and do sometimes get into 'character' with emails that might say "Order of the Day" .. do we really consider that a Militant and Dictatorial email? Of course not.

Is it possible that the recent email could be viewed negatively, maybe, but to resign over it? It would have been better I think to say .. Hey Tbar, that email was a bit strong. Yes?

My feelings at this time are to remove Tango from the list after a few days if we don't hear otherwise from him. He's always welcome to rejoin if later he changes his mind.

Tango's email:
Dear all,
In light of this very militant email, you may consider

me as removed from the roster, ToW, ToW forums and

anything else you want to grumble about.

Yes I do lead a busy life at the moment. Yes, I do

work shift work, Yes I do get home so tired I sleep

instantly. Yes it is obviously my fault that a

computer game takes a lower priority than real life.

ToW used to just be a friendly bunch of guys having

fun playing a game. Now it's some sort of

dictatorship. Sorry but I didn't sign up for that. I

don't want to be dictated to, I don't want you

organising my life and I certainly don't want you

getting grumpy with me because my new job takes a lot

of my spare time.

Please also remember that when I do get some time off,

it's nice to spend it with my GF or actually go out

into the real world.

ToW has been a good squad to be with and though I've

only recently flown twice in the last month (not at

matches or events) I honestly think that it's now time

to step down and leave.

Some people are taking this far too seriously and it's

not nice to find demanding/threatening emails in my

inbox threatening to remove me and others if we don't

make ToW the main priority.

Now I'm just going to fly AA for fun, for me, and for

FREEEEEEDDDDDOMMMMMM

Tango.

The original email is posted here for convenient review if needed:
::Salute::
Gentlemen,

We are a group are all screwed up .. its time to step up .. or step down.

Firstly, some of you have NOT flown in a great many months .. we keep you on the roster because we care about you and consider you part of the team even if you don't have time for AA right now or having other problems. What we do expect however is for you to "muster up" on our forums and/or drop us a line now and then so we don't worry about you. MUSTER UP if you have not already!!

Muster Up here.... April Roll Call

Second area of business is to get your account CORRECT at Central-Launch. For those that don't understand .. Central-Launch is the system where you actually play the game or select an arena from. The old system at TAA of your account etc .. is kaput .. old .. don't apply to new system. Yes, your TAA or UKAA accounts are good and will allow you to launch .. but its NOT the Central-Launch system... USE THE NEW SYSTEM .. get your account fixed up and correct! Most of the information for Central-Launch was imported from the TAA site .. so most of your info is correct .. EXCEPT that you have re RE_JOIN the Black Sheep Squadron on the NEW SYSTEM .. now most of you have done that .. but have done is SLOPPY.

How to fix all this??? EZ .. follow these instructions and either verify you are correct or fix those things that need fixing!!

1) Go to USAAC site http://www.airattack.us

2) Click on "LAUNCH" .. upper right link.. flashing icon.

3) Once you have the Central_launch system loaded you will notice a series of 'buttons' along the top of the page. click on the button that says "Users/Squad" then select 'squads". Now go down that list find Tides of War BSS.. click it and look carefully at the list. This is what I'm talking about .. things that need to be cleaned up and corrected. Example: Air_Boss is listed as pilot name Air_Boss and should be listed as ToW_Air_Boss. These are little things that need to be corrected so that when League play starts .. all pilots are LEGAL. Right now a lot of slack is being cut, but the warnings are coming to CO's to get this corrected now.

How do your fix the little boo boo's?

4) Top row buttons .. click on "Profile/Settings". This will display all your Central-Launch profile/account settings.

5) Now click on "Edit Profile"

What you will see here is your information. Correct anything you need to, pay particular attention to the bottom section labeled "Game Informations (Please enter your details)"

Your ingame tag: Make sure the TAG is CORRECT. Tag should be: ToW_ Please note the Capital T and W followed by an underscore _ .. not a dash -, then your name as proper to AA as you whish to be known. Normally name would start with a Capital letter.

Example: ToW_Tbar

Your Squad Function: This is a drop down list and select "pilot" Do not select CO. Do not select XO unless you are Saj or you want the USA job.. You may select "trainer' if that fits and you may select "eventmanager" if that fits.

Third Line of business:

For any of you that are having a difficult time .. don't understand the system .. can't get TeamSpeak to work .. anything that is really messing you up .. contact me personally at my email address of tbar@tbar.com and I will get things sorted out for you.

Fourth bit of business

ToW is recognized and respected Squad. We have made our mark. We have folks with Central-Launch as Ref's and Trainers. We are known. No, we are NOT the best AA Squad out there for wins/kills/etc .. but we are respected and folks know we are here to stay.

We do have some problems. Those problems are EZ to fix but take time. Our problem is our Pilots are NOT reporting for Muster, Not showing up for events, not showing up for matches .. and just plain AWOL. It is time to get this corrected and fixed. Next month we are going to start DROPPING pilots from our roster. This does not mean those pilots cannot use a ToW Tag or cannot rejoin the outfit in the future .. we simply need to know who we can count on and who we need to pay attention to NOW.

We had planned on splitting the current BSS into two Wings this month, this will have to be delayed because we are Pilot weak .. we never have enough pilots at any match. Recent 4 squad we could have done very well with .. but always being at the disadvantage of only 4 pilots on average against 8 on average .. we cannot get a fair chance. So our standing with 4 squad is really much worse than our TEAM ability. We KNOW we can do better. We need the UK Boys to get in a groove the USA wing has .. that is regular practice... and participation in Fun Events where you can practice flying as a team.

Fifth line of business

I am the CO .. ToW_Tbar is the leader of our clan/squad. I'm not the best pilot, I've always said that but when you were new you thought I was a top skilled pilot. Now you know, I'm average at best :) Doesn't matter really as my primary function within the group is to be the paper pusher and keep all this running and alive. But .. we do need a CO that can really 'push' this group. None of you are qualified at this time .. this is NOT shameful or an insult to anyone .. it just takes special skills to be a CO. You need to be able to communicate via email and IM's and team speak with members of the squad as well as USAAC Official and other Squad Co's. Spelling and grammar are important.. otherwise you loose respect and get criticism behind your back.... this reflects poorly on the squad as a whole. BSS is in need of a CO that can lead this group .. if you have the skill and time .. talk to me privately. Age is important, you must be 21 or older. Age is important because of the USAAC and AA Officials you will have to deal with, they just don't or won't deal with under 21 very well... this is a fact. For XO positions .. age is NOT a factor.

What we need is a CO and new pilots .. we need pilots. All of you need to RECRUIT!! You need to do this carefully however... here is what I have found: Everyone wants to be a member of something and joins quickly, and for the most part they find they don't like AA or feel they are no good and quit the game just as quickly. What I have found is don't waste you time on anyone that can't get onto Team Speak. On Team Speak we can teach them quickly, make them feel part of the team quickly .. and they will stick around .. simply to have a buddy to fly with if anything else. Over time .. they become really good loyal members. So.. recruit.. but get them on TS as a first step .. forget about forums and applications .. get them on TS. If you get them on TS .. you got them .. simply reel them in from that point. Another important point again is AGE. Normally I've found those 12-16 year old pilots .. are gone with the next best game.. they don't stick .. don't understand 'comrade's and or the concept of long range 'brothers". Best to try and concentrate on over 18/21, with jobs, and can use TeamSpeak. These are the folks that can really contribute to our squad .. not saying those under 18.21 can't.. because they have and do so today .. but they are the exception and not the rule!

If you have some other method of recruiting that works for you .. DO IT :)

Last bit of business

We have some fine potential as pilots. Pilots that started with ToW and are now much better than I am ... congrats! You all know who they are ;)

Red .. looking good dude.

Joker - most improved over a short time .. keep it up bro..

Strife - Excellent wing man .. excellent. He's always working hard to make a difference and be a better pilot. You need rank dude .. lets build that up again..

Picken - Future Ace of BSS .. Bad Boy of the air .. great job dude.

Hot-Shot This guy could be our best .. but he gets bored real ez and gets into trouble

Zarn - You are coming along also .. don't give up dude :)

Actually, I think everyone is improving .. even me a little bit. I'm old so I got excuse's.. hehe.

Air Boss and Gosling you don't see in the air very much, but when you do see them .. consider them CO's of BSS. They are excellent pilots .. by far better than most in AA. They know their stuff .. learn from them.

For all the pilots I have not mentioned .. sorry nothing came to immediate mind .. but do get back in the grind and come fly with us .. we miss you... and I want to be able to mention you next time :)

To all .. in closing.......

I hope you had a.............

HAPPY EASTER !! .. for those that recognize same.

Hiya,

I probably know Tango better then any of you guys as we talk on a regular basis (not about AA just about things we share interests in and general life happenings.) Some of you may take what he said and harsh but what he said is just exactly what he thinks, he does not tend to "mince" his words and tends to say what he is thinking, which is much easier then twisting what your thinking to make other people happy, maybe this will help us and let others tell us what they dont like about the group and we may be able to take some good from this and so forth.

If i see him in the skies i will still fly on his wing as hes a good guy. By tango replying to this email proves my point even more that hes a good guy with a busy life. Many people would have read it and just thought "okay, i shall just not reply and i will be taken off the squad, no hassle for me" but he actually did the nice thing and actually gave us a response.

@Tbar Just send me a message with the list of pilots you want removing from the list.

Read the first part of the email again .. right here:
We are a group are all screwed up .. its time to step up .. or step down.
Firstly, some of you have NOT flown in a great many months .. we keep you on the roster because we care about you and consider you part of the team even if you don't have time for AA right now or having other problems. What we do expect however is for you to "muster up" on our forums and/or drop us a line now and then so we don't worry about you. MUSTER UP if you have not already!!
The first line says WE as a group. Step up and step down is directed at WE as a group, not any one individual. If an individual feels it was directed at them personally .. then maybe they have a little bit of guilty feeling .. nothing wrong with that, but its not Military/Dictator.

The second paragraph clearly states: "... we care.. even if you don't have time for AA right now ... " This clearly indicates that some folks have RL issues that must be attended to, clearly indicates RL comes first

I'm sorry, but there is just no reason for anyone not to understand from the first part of the email that WE as a group have to have some discipline and co-ordination as well as knowing from each pilot what they can and can't do this month. The email does not ask anyone to do anything unrealistic or put a hardship on anyone.

I don't see his response as the 'right thing to do' or as being 'nice'. I also don't agree that most people would just say/think "ok, i won't repsond and they can just take me off the list". In fact some have already responded and said "they didn't know", "ok, will do, tks for the reminder", etc.. positive feedback, not bad feedback.

The easter brake for me is over back to the grind stone tomoro, that said I shud be on in the next 48 hours. I've only flicked across this post and so will restrain my coments until I have a bit of time to give it my attention.

real short I find ToW a great bunch to fly with, that is each and every pilot. Some I haven't seen for a while, some I've seen today. however ALL I want to see and fly with again in the future!!!

cheers for now

ok this is going to bein no order at all, righ now I'm writing a informative letter to one of my managing directors informing him of my departments current gripes (I am but a ground floor worker however I do ensure my point is heard) as such excuse my over pollitness and no doubt bad language :)

IMO Tbar any feedback is possotive, it gives an insite to what someone is thinking much like myself Tango does not sugar coat dog s---, he says his piece, I for 1 respect that. I agree with Saj that the easy thing for someone to do is not to reply and just disapear (like to my knowladge Grim has) Tango's responce has come dirrectly from an email he not doubt recieved on the wrong day atthe wrong time, hell catch me on a bad day and the reply would be alot less welcoming. I understand his situation fully as it is not so far from my own. IMO he says nothing nasty he plainly states his opinion towards how things have changed I find nothing offencive in the whole of his reply. Yes he is a little sarcastic but hell all thats shows is he still has a sence of humer, Tango mate dont hang up the colours hell I'll punch the clock each month for you so to say, be a shame to bow out of ToW over this. I'm sure you will say it has happened over time and it has been more than this 1 thing but mate at the end of the day we are here to have FUN bottom line come when you can stick on the tag fly and have fun!!!!

I agree with both sides Tbar your right it isn't alot to post a reply each month just saying you are still about, however I think you have gone the wrong way about trying to implement this hence the possition we are in with Tango. Dont ask how it should be done I dont have the answers, I know you and others put alot of effort into this, and I know it is the same elsewhere. But to throw all those points in 1 email, (muster, awol, new recruits, ........................

right from here im starting over whats above I'll leave as thats how I'm thinking at the time.

As I read both sides repetedly (due to my memory failing) I see less and less conflict and just NOTHING. Tbar your innitial email although a little daunting at first is not IMO harsh, unfair or dictatoringshiply (regemented maybe). Your initial reply (post 1) is understandably a little hot.

Tango's reply to what you must admit WAS a slightly militant email (be it right or wrong) simply says he joined ToW for fun, has had less time to fly recently due to RL and that he feels presured by I would guess primerally Tbar to I dont know....be more active I suppose. I can understand his response as on first glance I agreed with it, however I personally dont feel we are now less friendly, slightly more structured perhapse but IMO it is necasary to have SOME structure or we would never attend events. He says it is not nice to recieve threatening emails and feels it is the right time to step down. I agree recieving a threatening mail isn't nice, however I feel Tbars email was not theatening, it was informative just badly structured and worded :?

I would say if you are unhappy at ToW mate step out. Your a good bloke and I will fly with you in the future I hope but if YOU feel it is time to hang the ToW tag up and that YOU will have more fun without it then, fair thee well Mr Tango enjoy your freeeeeeeeedom Image

not alot more I can say.

@all ToW pilots please muster up each month. It will take only a few moments of your time, een if you cant fly there is NO requirment for your time if you decide that your new GF/BF, wife, kid, job toy car.....whatever is more inportant thats fine. If you still have an intrest here at Image just shove a little hello on the muster post.

Anyone who can't fly is IMO n less important to the squad then someone who flys every match from now until the creation of virtual reality Image we are all part of this squad (even Tbar) if we have hit a slump lets get back to having fun!

Short term I'm gonna take the bull by the horns whoever has read right down here. While I'm on a normal shift (6am-6pm) I'm going to get a Euro timed event running. It may come that some1 else has to take over (in a month in 6 months who knows) but we will cross that bridge when it comes. I will make another post relating to that so dont reply here.

In closing: Tango would hate to see you go mate, but if it feels like the right time then hopefully I'll still be seeing you Image

I havent got time to reread this so sorry if anything doesnt make sence I'm sure your used to it by now, Thanks for your time.

The point of my email .. regardless if it is long or not is that we have some changes we need to make .. 25 pilots+ on our roster and yet we can't get more than 4 for a total match? umm.. something not right there.

We have very few rules .. very few. One rule says you need to muster up. Mustering up can be done many ways .. even via another pilot. All it takes is a little effort once a month to say "I'm here .. might be busy and can't fly .. but I'm here". That's it .. simple.

When folks never answer any of the emails .. I have to wonder if they have moved on .. can't reply .. email messed up, sick in the hospital.. wife took the keyboard/stick and hid it... and the list goes on. We don't want to loose or exclude any pilot. We just want a squad that can play together .. and know what pilots want to and can compete in matches. Some pilots 'expect' match/league competition, we owe them as much attention to that activity as any other. I can't really do this correctly if I don't know what pilots are "here" and which are really not ..

Consider: There is never any pressure on anyone to compete or be in a match .. never.

Consider: There is never any communication that says "you must", unless its part of the Central_Org Rules or part something that needs to be done to protect the pilot. It's never really anything strictly BSS.

Consider: That even when BSS Pilots are in violation of something .. they are normally contacted and 'asked' to make a correction.

Tango just had a bad hair day. That's my opinion. There has never been anything here at BSS that can be considered 'dictator' etc. This I take exception to ..strongly.. the terms of 'dictator' or 'militaristic'. Trust me .. if we were like other squads things would be much stricter with required practices and team meetings. Required match attendance, etc ..

It amazing that the time given to writing a response and resignation email .. that time could not simply be spent to 'muster up'. ... ..

Enough on this .. one would think we have some kinda of major problem here. We don't.

The rest of the email in question was all informative .. strictly informative .. which again is part of the CO duties.

Yeah picken i already do one on a Wednesday at 8pm London time but no one every seems to turn up i also am going to start using this time to train some of my personal rookies which i have assigned myself from the [ROOKIE] squad. So picken you tell me a time, and if it suits my time (you know the times im available m8) then i shall rock up show my face get shot down and then pretend i was letting the rookies kill me as practise. hehe

...Reading tbars reply now...

Right guys as a member of this squad i am going to say we should leave this hear, everyone has said their part and hat they want to say, so lets move on and let our friend tango do what he's got to do and we shall move on and hope to hear from him in the future if he comes back to us.

Moving On

What i think reference the emails being sent by the CO (tbar or however else, does not matter who) should only be sent to the appropriate members once and a CC(carbon copy) sent to his/her XO( i come to this further down). I think this because this will reduce the number of emails to everyone even more for those people who are bothered about reading emails, also no matter what anyone's reason is even if it is an email issue they all know where to find us as our name is all over all airattack communities so if they truly wanted to find us they could. I also fell less jobs should be put on the CO for example after this changes are made to the pilot roster i am going to correct my mailing list so i have 2 groups, 1 group the whole squad and another group all European pilots as these are my responsibility, and i fell that from when we get the pilot roster onwards it should be down to the XO's to keep their pilots informed and in shape for example checking if their active, getting them registered on all the correct websites and in the correct user groups etc.

Obviously whole squad information should be sent directly to all members of the squad but i fell say someone is AWOL it should be that persons XO that is informed and it should then be their job to sort that person out. For example say ToW_Gone_Missing is from the UK and is AWOL their is no reason for the whole squad to no about all the proceedings in checking where they are and their status with us. In fact it probably does not need to be told to anyone apart from the persons XO the CO. Then once everything has been decided then inform the whole squad of all the happenings as they don't need constant updates of all the emails etc.

So more work and responsibility for the XO's and the running of their fellow squad members, less work for the CO for the little things, but the CO is kept informed of everyone think overall and anything that effects the whole squad is sorted by the CO but anything that is just one person or a set of people then it should be the XO's job. If the XO's keep in touch with me with any changes to the pilot roster or the training schemes then I will update them to our website. :)

From now on ways what im personally going to do.

As a XO of Europe

-Keep a track of all AWOL pilots and getting people to muster up (if the squad agrees on my ideas above)

-Keep track of all training sessions held.

-Keep track of all attendees of European based training events.

-Make sure all European pilots needs are meet to.

As a member of the squad

-Keep a track of all attendees of matches.

-Keep the website up to date.

and much more that i cant think of right now but shall update as things come back to my mind.

Saj,

Sounds like we need a Co/Xo meeting.. then a team meeting on Team Speak.

From this one resignation letter we are getting off on too many separate ideas, thoughts and suggestions. We need to CLOSE this thread and open new threads by topic and not mix all this discussion. Also it appears that we have a MAJOR problem .. which we don't.

There are NOT a lot of emails that go out. What is the majority of those emails is 'reminders' of matches and/or practices .. otherwise they are notices of things I receive from AA_Central of what pilots need to do.

I like the idea you present. It is the way things should be. The problem is that a new squad does not have the established 'stability' to know who's dependable over a long run. We have been around long enough now where I think we do have that 'stability' in certain areas, take yourself for example you have been XO for a long run and basically the Euro Wing Leader.

In the Case of the USA Wing .. I've been thru 3 xo's .. and currently we have none. I think now we can start the process for USA Wing leader again ......
