just put a flight or single of what ever plane you want in map
THat is the bit with the FMB that I always found difficult. To state the obvious for everyone else - Having seledcted the object you want to put in the mission - POSITION THE CURSOR and PRESS INSERT to place it on the map. Remember to release it with ESC (I think) when you want ot work with a different object.

a right click and unselect also works
