Has anyone here actually been to Gibralter, climbed the Rock or toured the town.

I have a number of questions and inquiries I'd like to correlate from real life experiences to the fictional worlf of the RNE in Gibralter.

Many thanks.

hi

i spent some time in the royal navy during the 80's and 90's and of course gib is like a jumping off point for the royal navy

every deployment started and stopped there

the most number of bars in such a small place i ever saw and i sampled most of them lol

not like that anymore though

what do you want to know?

i of course am in on the whereabouts of the 2nd set of pool balls that disappeared from the angry friar (mad monk) pub in 1987 but i'll never tell...well...maybe lol

Geographical: distance from the harbour to the town square? If you walked the most direct route what would you see? What are the streets made out of? Kerbing or guttering? Footpaths?

Historical: any buildings pre WW2 era still standing? Constructed of what substances? War bunkers in the streets? Signage - both advisory and advertisements - what style and scripting? Waterfront wharehouses - still in existance? Is/Was there an equivalent of a Music Hall/Theatre with an orchestra pit? A photo would be nice.

Topographical: view of the skyline looking towards the Rock. What buildings can you see? What views can you see? Hiking trails around the waterfront? Up the Rock?

Sociological: an opinion about the merchants/residents/street people you met.

Drink-ological: the bars - were they stand alone buildings or refurbished? Local drink and tobacco?

I've looked at a few internet sources but they don't quite convey anything close to a personal feel.
