I believe if you have the "Gold Edition" you don't need any patches.
Welcome Aboard, we are always glad to see a new arrival. Things are pretty quite on the Enigma Front waiting for Chapter Two (MP) to be released.
Use this time to practice and learn the tricks of the trade on whatever vessels you choose as you weapons platform. There is tons of information in the various forums - start with the "Pinned" headings and in no time you'll be an Ole Salt like the rest of us.

He is from Europe and there is a mini patch available to enables custom missions.

Rising for almost 2 years now (had loads of problems with the darn
thing though so eventually dumped it), and got the Gold Edition (US) only
last week. However this version is a lot better. So I had to start from
scratch, since I haven't played for a while, and wondering if anyone
could give me a tip on how to effectively get past the Calico James level
in the campaigns against the two subs. Heck I'm getting mighty
impatient trying to get past that level. How do I effectively use my depth
charges and not run out as I usually do. Many thanks and All the best.
