=) I am interested to know how many members we have were members of Subron 14 Polaris sub base,or support ships like USS Hunley in the Holy Loch in Scotland? I was born and grew up there when it was a British sub and MTB base during WW2.We used to play among the abondoned boats just after the war and go on board all the famous WW2 warships and carriers after the war as the loch was the site of the battle of the North Sea celebrations and we would go by local steamer to the boarding ladders of the ships for a short tour. ( my dad was a Rolls Royce engineer during the war and worked on the loch and at Clydebank on the Merlin engines for the Hawker Siddley and Fairmile MTB's and rescue craft and later at Dice airfield on Spitfires and Hurricanes. I have visited the U.S base on my trips back there and what a great bunch of guys they were. I enjoyed a few good nights out at the Argyll Hotel in their company! They left an indelible mark on the town after they were decommisioned. The squadron have a big reunion coming up there 5th may this year and interestingly enough one of their medical staff at that base was a team member of the Challanger shuttle disaster, God bless her soul. A memorial is held every year at the Holy Loch or Castle Gardens in Dunoon Argyll,Scotland in memory of that sad event. I surely wish we could emulate the degree of patriotism they display here in Australia but maybe with little Johnny we are getting there!
