Carriers And A Future Problem With Fun

Ahh I think I Missed the idea here that All positions including pilot would be players. WAs thinking each person had their own boat and the planes would basicly be NPC controled. While I agree that having like 6 or more people per boat would be quite fun, I think this would make for some rather small scale battles with Enigma's current active population (aka people that even check to see if multiplayer is still cooking). So unless TAG has a large marketing plan setup which isn't exactly likely. I'd think we'd be better off with 1 person, one boat. Let NPCs man most of the guns so we can actually get more then 20 boats in our MMOG ;)
I'm not saying there MUST be more than one person controlling a ship. Whatever is not controlled by a human player should be controllable by AI.

But the player should be able to issue orders to AI. Imagine being able to order selected aircraft to launch and designate their targets or an area to search and destroy whatever enemies they find.

There's so much potential here!

Exactly what I was thinking yellow. I was thinkg people would drive a carrier and command the NPC controlled planes on board. Now maybe just telling planes to attack things I can't see isn't the thing for me. I'd just like to see my plane wreck havoc.. eh maybe i should just hop on someone else's carriers and fly their planes.

But that brings up another issue. Factions need to have resource of somekind that prevents them from feilding each of their player in a BB. Like while it might be fun for me to actually fly a plane off someone else's carrier, I'd be more effective just getting another carrier. So factions need to gain resources over time (prehapes with each successful merchant run?) that allow them to buy boats, which they then grant to who ever wants them of the highest rank. Another question is, Who gets the boat if two people of the same rank request it?

Kadreal,

Talk has been ongoing since I recieved the (beta cd) two years ago Feb 2003 about how this game will be marketed and played out in MMOG (massive multiplayer).. over 600 cd's were mailed out in the first part of 2003 alone to players that wanted to be multiplayer beta testers. Following that were multiple releases of the game around the world in regular retail version 2003 and finally this year gold version 2005 with ongoing sales in the major countries USA/Canada/Australia. The lawsuit missing sales money for europe alone is almost 2 million dollars. Now if you have any doubt how many people are out there just breathlessly waiting for the next release of local area network (LAN standalone server) release this year, I am sure you can do some quick calculations that dwarf the presence of the few who take their time to support questions in the forums for the occaisional new players that purchase and come in here looking for a little help.

Think big when you talk about convoys being escorted.. think about the interesting things that have been said to allow free players to operate the merchant ships during MMOG so they can earn free time in a sub or DD.. read as much of this forum going as far back as 2003 as you can if you want to get the bigger picture. Players will have to earn rank to operate the bigger BB or Carrier and prove themselves capable. This will not be a push button game where you can choose anything you want during your first day in the game.

Finally, not everything you read in here will come to fruition immediately on demand when the MMOG rolls out. Due to developers business decisions, players wishful requests, time and money constraints, and the history of how all games overall tend to be polished and perfected over time, and given the talent and personal characteristics of the people in Tesseraction, I believe you will be amazed at the final result (even if there are many changes from original plans) if you come here in another year and read again your comment that only a few seem to be around checking in.
