New Battleship Classes

Recently ive been reading a book of naval battles (inspired by Enigma :) ) and cames across the Nelson class Battleship (HMS Rodney to be exact). I have to say i think this is coolest looking Battleship ive seen, something about the placement of its guns just pushes my buttons.

Obviously it has its flaws, no rear firing big guns for a start but with all those 16inchers i wouldnt be planning on running away ;)

Just thought id put her forwards with the small hope that she could be included at a later date. I know this could mess with the alternate history but you obviously have talented writers i bet they could come up with something.

Just incase anyone cares there are some good pics here Dai James' Naval, Maritime and Aviation Pages

Hope i put the link in properly, you can do it manually if i messed up :P

From all that I've read about Rodney and Nelson, the two were not only slow, but also prone to rolling from side to side in even moderate weather, making accuracy a hell of a job for fire control.

But as Crunch said, perhaps having Japanese input in the design of a class similar to Rodney and Nelson could produce a better ship, but with the same sort of gun arrangement.

Since battleships' guns tended to be arranged in generally similar ways, it would be good to see some variation, like the two quad-gun turrets on Duquesne, the five dual-gun turrets on Utah, or the three triple-gun turrets on Rodney.

I like the idea of being able to affect the stats of your ship but it definately comes wit its own downsides. The one thing that consistently annoyed me about other 'massively multiplayer' games ive played is that even with identical ships a new player stands no chance when fighting an experienced player. An experienced player should be expected to win a battle through tactics and greater knowledge of his ships weapons, not simply because they've had the oppertunity to double their armour or increase the range of their guns.

Perhaps small bonuses based on your crews experience would be a better way to go.
