Game Features That Would Be Cool To Have

Ahoy!

Just watched the latest footage and it looks like it is progressing nicely.  I did notice that damage seems to be hit point based by watching the damage on the ship icon increase as the ship took hits.  Are there plans to make the damage more hit specific?  Say like you get hit in the bow and your forward turret gets hit and goes out of action.  A hull hit causes flooding and makes you list and slow down. Etc.

The best surface game I've played was an old game from SSI called Great Naval Battles.  When you took hits, you would have compartments and equipment damaged.  Those compartments could either be destroyed, have fires start in them or have flooding in them.  Those with fires or flooding, you could dispatch damage control teams to try and repair the damage.  Each ship had a certain number of repair teams.  Bigger ships had more repair teams.  Fires left unattended would eventually destroy the compartment.  If too many compartments flooded, you would sink.  However, you could manually counter-flood compartments on the opposite side of the ship to resolve your list as too much of a list could capsize you.  you had the be careful. It was very realistic in my opinion.

Hi Jester

Phil here from Game Tonic

First off i just wanna say thanks for taking an interest in the game, we're enjoying working on it and we're hoping its gonna be a huge hit :)

To address your question.

Currently there are two things on the ship that can take damage; The Hull & The Batteries.

As you can imagine with the game play as it is its quite hard to hit a turret to disable it, but it can be done and the mechanic is there.

We have plans to have it so that every part of the ship can take damage and that will affect what you'll be able to do with your ship.

All the way from the command tower, to ammo stores, rudder control and so on.

As for your idea we have something like that in the design process already and we'll be rolling that out as we explore it internally and get feedback from the community about how they want it to work but they basic jist of what you're proposing is how it would work in a basic fashion. We want to have a system where you can fully customise and outfit your ship both externally and internally to fit your play style

Make sure you follow you us on our Facebook Page for all the latest updates, until we have a website setup and a forum of our own that will be the main calling point

Cheers again

Phil

Many thanks for posting in our forums. Tides of War originated from groups playing sea action games and so the heritage is there.

It is very helpful to our members to hear direct from developers and very encouraging to hear that our thoughts and suggestions are listened to even if not all can be developed.

We really appreciate your contribution to our community.

Good luck with the development and we look forward to any future contributions you may make.

Hi Gosling

Cheers for taking an interest in the project.

We've always had the philosophy in the studio that our community (namely you guys and other communities that would wanna play it) know what they want out of a game and we're just the means to get that done.

Obviously we're working towards this game, making the frame work for it and we have the ultimate say, but we're more than open about the processes we go through, the ideas we have and we do want people to actively contribute to the creative process since afterall this is a game made for you guys.

What i'm planning on doing is spending some time during the week to monitor the community, respond to feedback and talk to people to gather ideas. More than likely this will be a Monday morning and Friday afternoon.

I would really appreciate it if people were to follow the facebook and keep your eyes peeled for our Website & Forum; which should be ready to go either at the end of next week or beginning of the week after. The reason why we're not keeping things central to ToW is that we want to build a community on our own feet and have the support that comes with that. we also don't want to turn people off by showing any kind of favoritism. We are however incredibly grateful for the exposure and the support we have from you guys but i'm sure you can understand where i'm coming from.

We have some fairly big announcements coming over the next few weeks. I have some awesome pieces of work to show you guys from Daryl. The King George looks amazing with its texture (even though its currently half finished). We're well under way in developing our demo map, yea i bet you guys didn't realize we're developing a demo for you guys ;). Our website & forum will be ready soon. We'll be looking for some big time support in Mid Feb from all of you, another large community and people we know.

Again i just wanna say thanks for the support we've been getting from you guys, ultimately this is a game for you guys; we're just making it. So guide us to what you want :)

Phil
