FYI Guys....

We now have an excellent opportunity to get the B-29 Alley map sheet started to support our future Dog Fight and COOP missions as a Marine Carrier Group. Once we have an established Dog Fight map to support what we are striving for that covers the Northern Pacific Theatre of operations, it can be run on a dedicated server in v. 409b1m.

Based on what we know to date from Goslings recent exchange with FA_Monguse and with advice, guidance and technical support from the Fallen Angels server guru plus our intent from the Skipper, the map ideally would be run on a Full Realism setting minus the Speed Bar being active in game. This setting will be used in conjunction to support our air operations for any large scale dog fight, COOP and or online campaign mission with mutually supporting objectives.

The map would need to be made along the lines of a Historical / Semi - Historical setting as a work in progress or WIP. Aircraft to be used would be that which would be typically found in theatre at that time. Marianas island chain, Okinawa and the island of Kyushu in Southern Japan. Iwo Jima for technical reasons will have no runway capability.

The actual in game time line and mission brief should be focused around late 1944 when the Mariana Island chain of Guam, Tinian and Saipan were being used for Strategic Bombing strikes against Japans home islands not to mention Okinawa and Iwo Jima by the USAAF.

Okinawa would be Japanese controlled as it were the case prior to the invasion of Okinawa as well as the Iwo Jima Marine invasion in February of 1945.

Having a US Navy / Marine Corps presence on Guam as well as Tinian and Saipan will play in our favor. Having our Groups Task Force "underway" out at sea somewhere on the mapsheet would be ideally suitable as well. Details can be discussed further regarding what I've talked about here.

Hitcher, you've suggested an interest in making this map for the Group or what are your thoughts ? Please advise...

Many thanks guys.....

This is a very commendable proposal. However we need first to fully understand any "Technical restrictions" that may apply to this large map. For one I think the FMB will not function as the FMB would not be able to handle the size of map. This may be overcome by understanding the grid reference system and thus adding items using notepad.

Kyushu, 1945 ill try to find the jap navy and army airforces order of battle. Maybe a WHAT IF campaign based on operation olympic, IE what if the A bomb didnt work? i can easily find the orders and orders of battle for that and maps too
Sounds like a plan Ranger. Dig up what you can find on your end and then we can task organize accordingly with what we know.

Hitcher, The Mariana Island chain was primarily USAAF controlled after these islands were seized by elements of the US Army and USMC. The USAAF conducted long range bomber strikes against Iwo Jima, Okinawa as well as the Japanese home islands from late 1944 through August of 45 up to "VJ" Day.

Initially, the USAAF had to fly their sorties out of Saipan, Tinian and Guam in order to soften up Iwo Jima and later Okinawa to facilitate the Marine landings on both of those locations. Once Iwo Jima fell after a month of intense close quarters combat with Imperial Japanese Marines, the runways on Iwo Jima were used as forward fighter bases (P-51 D-20) that flew in support of the B-29 raids on Tokyo and elsewhere.

We can talk on Team Speak about what units to place on the map sheet if need be. No problem there.
