25/07/07 Practice Report

Hi sheeps.

Another good practice held last night. Good to see Strife, Joker, Tbar and new BSS pilot Fefnir turning up and getting much needed team practice. I must say that I'm a little worried and somewhat embarrassed at the distinct lack of pilots based in UK/Europe, but hey

Joker and Tbar winged up against Myself Strife and Fenfir with each team on a separate TS channel. Fenfir listened in on Ts but had no microphone which made comms a little difficult. We worked hard on team communication ie calling out info, targets, alt, enemy position/movements, our intended action etc - still much work to do but I feel we are improving.

After a while the whole thing turned into a bit of an FFA with all sorts of individuals joining in! The fact that the practice room was FFA and not teams did make the use of F4 (lock on nearest enemy) more difficult but ensured that the use of other camera angles/views was necessary. I for one found this useful as I rely too heavily on the enemy locks (F4 just locked on my wingman). What do others think? Views and suggestions please.

It does make it difficult to communicate when the whole wing is not on board. Team Speak IS the Vital tool we use to communicate our intended actions and defenses. Head sets are very inexpensive for most people and can be found just about anywhere, including Wal Mart, K mart, and Radio Shack.

Usually for less than $20.00 U.S.

Something we did different on this practice with TS was much more effective for us than having everyone on the same channel. Tbar and myself where on one channel and Strife, Zarn and Fefnir on another. It was very easy and clear to hear the directions of Tbar while not having to hear anything else.

Although I have to say that we need to get a single style of communication terms instead of "I'm on this or that" Where are you." "I'm on the map see, don't you see me." I had been flying this game for 3 or 4 years I might understand all of that, but its only been seven months and I'm only just now getting a few things figured out. I can't read people minds and I haven't flown with anyone long enough to figure out there flying style.

I can tell you that I am very much a loner and I tend to do better by myself than trying to fly wing with someone at this point. The reason being, is that I probably fly more than most of you and my time is pretty much very open at this time in my life, and no one is around to wing up with me. The closest I have had to having a wingman is Jonny, Tbar Strife, and sometimes Zarn on weekends. Still we should have a wingman that we can fly with on a regular in my opinion. After talking with a few people form other squads, I've been told that I'm on the right path and keep working on it. I did try to set up a few people for Tbar to come in and kill but I couldn't visualize the kills he was setting up for me and I could tell he was getting aggravated which in turn got me upset too.

While we had the chance of flying just with our two squads, the interruption by outsiders made it more of a challange for us to continue. I would say we could password the room, but then if someone new came along and wants to come in and check us out, they wouldn't be able too.

I'm pretty happy with the way things progressed overall. I did have someone ask me after practice if it had bothered us that TS-Squad came in and interrupted our practice. I explained to him that I was more offended that they choose to fly P-38's against us, which I took as and insult because it made them such easy targets for us and really didn't give us anything to work with. Still, there team work was outstanding and proved to be more valuable than the plane they where flying. So it shows that we have a very long way to go, and I'm looking forward to making the trip to the top.

Eventually we will get it all figured out and be able to compete with the top teams.

Hey. Sorry for not showing up to this practice and not being around at all recently.

I'm having a bit of a tough time with my ex-girlfriend, she seems to have the mission of making my life as crappy as possible at the moment, so all my time online is spent sorting things out with friends.

I will be back soon, just as soon as I get my social life in check.
