Aggro Management

a problem that can occur with some players - and less-experienced/recently dinged 60's is following dps calls/managing own aggro

some ppl seem to think a 'good tank' should be able to hold all aggro no matter what....

in a lot of cases (and massively so in a lot of endgame instances) - watching your own aggro/dps calls/tactics are the key skills and make the diff between success/wipe in a lot of places

I've been in grps with a good tank - where the (insert dps class) has moaned about tank not keeping aggro - well it can be kinda hard sometimes - esp if ppl wade in immediately with some amazing dps and crit after crit...

wait a few secs, either wait for dps call or watch that the tank has got aggro first - eg you can see a cupla sunders under mob icon - (for a main boss, 5 sunders and u can usually start)

ppl have some way of reducing their own aggro - if ur in a boss-fight and u've scored a crit or 2 and its a hard-to-tank boss, wait a few secs before ur nxt attack or use whatever skill u have to ditch some aggro -

chucking out amazing dps can actually be a liability in endgame - UNLESS you follow dps calls and instructions carefully and make sure you manage your own aggro

ofc I'm not sayin you should just gently pat the nasty mob til it dies of boredom.... just be careful out there ;-) tanks are there to get whupped on - let em enjoy a good slapping and dont take the mob off em :)

....but then again if you are the main tank and the mob wanders of and starts molesting the priest after you've been healed with just two flash heals, it is time to take a good look into the mirror and ask yourself "am I the ?ber tank?". :D

God hates poor tanks just as he hates those non-tanks who attack the innocent sheeps... 😳

P.S. I needed the daily forum fix and hence this post.

I don't suspect Tizzi is aiming this post at anyone specific. But i can relate to this post alot because i feel i could be one of the persons guilty of creating too much aggro.

I have recently got a large influx of great new gear. Including my first 2 epics in 2 weeks :D. And thus i have increased my power so fast that i havn't thought much about the aggro that i muster.

As for shooting pre DPS or attacking Sheeps/shackles. I feel there are 2 main causes of this.

1. ITF (Itchey Trigger Finger) I am guilty of this. Sometimes while waiting for DPS calls my finger often gets over eager and jumps for the button. I allways had a similar problem when playing american football. I often jumped before the snap so i caused penalties. I will try harder to keep my self (and finger) more controlled.

2. Lack of communication. I have found that sometimes DPS calls aren't made for an unusually long period of time or sometimes not at all. As well as sheep/shackle not being named or designated properly. I hope now that more people are using the Teamspeak channel (made available to us via Buxton and Tides of War. Thank you Very very much) we will have a greater amount of communication and this will start to die out.

As for sheeps breaking, i don't really think its lack of communication at this point. Sure using detect magic is needed when we have multiple mobs and usually gets used.

It's more often panic reactions from players that makes them break sheeps. When we have adds or run into mobs unexpected there isn't time to detect magic on the one i want to sheep. People that know me by now, know that i will always try to sheep one. So they don't panic anymore and wait for me to sheep. Takes 2/2,5 seconds (including react time) and you won't die in that time :). After that, they see if there's any loose mobs and take them on.

It's when people don't know that i sheep when things start to go wrong, like in the average pickup group. They see mobs running to them and start hitting right away, usually with Damage over Time things making it impossible for me to sheep. Or a strat run i remember having with some Feral Instinct people. I used counterspell on a caster that i used detect magic on. By using counterspell the caster was running to me. I did that to avoid the sheep feature that they wonder off quite far sometimes and always into the next group :(. If i can i will always try to keep the sheep close to me, but they didn't know and saw a mob running to us and started hitting. But that happens once and after that everyone knows and sheep can remain sheeps :D

heya - nope theseus it wasnt aimed at anyone - was just a lil ramble - inspired by sum of our raids and for some of th newer players - and yeah Lost - i did say a good tank - I've seen tanks who also cant/wont bother to try n grab/hold aggro and cud be out-threatlisted by my pet bunny doing a /hop emote....... heheheh

there's also the sheep/sleep/shackle/any cc - breaking ppl like shammies who spam aggro-ing aoe fire totems - ppl wif items equipped that 'damage all mobs in (xyz) radius' - we've all had em at some point :)

and oh yeah Thes - Teamspeak is a total joy to use - be great if even more ppl used it esp in raids but it only really works at its best there if everyone has it - and if ppl can shutup n listen - much easier and faster to make calls/giv instructions/remind tactics/warn if oom n MT needs a healer to take over etc etc

(and great for comments on Grim's half-man half-cake status... !)

k, had my spam-fix now :)

Hi - a new day - and my single remaining non-senile brain cell has had a new thought :o

Etiquette and chat.....

hmmmm.... hoping I don't come across as the prude of the century here - or a Mary Whitehouse clone...

in guildchat/TS - I find suggestiveness, naughtiness, double entendre, oo-er missus speak - totally fine - with an increased rate/depth of smuttiness after the watershed or in 'closed grps' totally fine

(tbh - if ur th 'minimum age' as declared on WoW box - u'll have heard worse at skool ;-))

but - being a member of that alien strange species (female) I don't like some terms used....

1) constant use of 'raped' - usually used when ppl mean ganked or wtfpwnd - eg omg they raped us etc etc

2) shag/shagging ^^ - no not the dance-style frm the 50's or the harsh rolling tobacco...... its nowadays a derogerative gutter-speak term for sexual congress - usually used by males as most women find it cringe-worthy - trying to censor meself here but any 'light reference' words eg humping, or the blatant, honest and to-the-point 'Fcuk' would be much more acceptable to my well-known delicate and shy ears/eyes..... ;-)

ty, Lady Tizzi :o

I agree Tizzi.

Although every now and then using some words can be funny in its context, when people start using them all the time it soon becomes very annoying.

One other thing that has bothered me sometimes is answers new people in the guild get. They are always meant to be funny, so i'm not saying it's bad, but especially new people don't understand the kind of humor that has grown in our guild over time yet. So if you want to reply in a funny way to someone's question, look who is asking first. If it's someone relative new it might be better to hold it in, especially when the question is just something about the game :D
