Just curious to see if perhaps someone in here has overlooked this terrific movie.
I know... I know it may seem a foolish question in a sub sim forum but some of the younger guys might have missed it.
If you haven?t seen it then by all means GO GET IT!

heh younger guys, i've seen it and i'm only 18. and the first time i watch it i was 13. its a good movie, i've watched it in its original language (with subs) and the crappy english dubbing. i love submarine movies, the concept of the submarine is just so flawed.
"lets get into a giant tube with no way to see anything, pack it with explosives and send it off into the middle of no where."
I also recommend hunt for the red october, for the submarine action. same with U-571, and K-19. bad movies (imo) but the submarine action is always cool.
Directors cut on DVD - one of our source films for the sub interior and MUCH more.

Never saw the movie but there was an excellent many many part series on UK tv long long, ago.
Subtitled but wonderful.
DarkSoul that was the movie. BBC2 'cut it up'into episodes to make it palatable for undescerning viewers.
Though a bit propagandish I always enjoy watching 'We Dive At Dawn'. Another fav is 'In Which We Serve' though Coward is a bit too aloofish. Another great one to see, Star Trek based an episode on this, is 'The Enemy Below'.

Yes. Taped the series fron UK tv. Unfortunately the whole eight hours worth is now worn outDas Boot is by far and away the best sub movie made IMHO btw DarkSoul the series you see was the same as my first viewing and by far and away better than the dubbed version that followed!
I have to agree that the dubbed version wasnt so good as the original. It lost something because of the feeling in the voices. Also the music suffered and it had a great score. I felt it was particularly good because as a brit I didnt know any of the actors at the time so there were no preconceptions at all. Jurgen Prochnow went on to be in films like Judge Dredd and Beverly Hills Cop 2 but I never saw any of the others in anything else

I've seen both versions many times and saw the undubbed Das Boot twice on the big screen.

Also I lived in Deutchland for seven jahre. Ich kann bichen Deutch sprechen. Flasche bier bitte. Wohin sind der krieg musee? The undubbed version was sehr INTENSE for me. OMG! I even cried the first time when I saw that great scene in the french docks. It's not the best sub film ever done, it's the ultimate...
Yeah - I love this film.
I particularly like the bit at the end where the RAF blow them all to pieces..
If you liked this film I can recommend a book called 'Iron Coffins' by Herbert Werner.

As we say here in Germany "Wer denn Film Das Boot nicht kennt hat die Welt verpent!" which means - Whoever hasn't seen the Film "Das Boot" has really missed something!
If you not had seen it yet it's now really time for it. It is the best Sub movie!
So the first time I saw the DC Version at ARD TV at the age of 7 OMG it was fantastic. Man did I laught at the scene in the rest room where the other U-Boat Captain says "I'am not in the condition to frack!"
Well so now at my 17. Birthday i will get,FINALLY, the Special Edition of this great Film.
Its on Danish TV this thursday
Went out and bought it this weekend got the director's cut on dvd. Hadn't seen it prior to today.
Great film and it shows what a good job has been made with this game!

1---"The Enemy Below" with K. Jurgens and Robert Mitchem(tremendous
mind games between DD captain(Mitchem) and Uboat captain(Jurgens).
GREAT ending.
2--"Run Silent Run Deep": Burt Lancaster and Clark Gable. Kinda a Moby
Dick theme where Gable's American sub was sunk by Japanese DD, a destroyer which has sunk at least 7 American subs; and he returns in a sub
a very obscessed man, to get revenge.
3---"Pursuit of Graf Spee"--Nice battle scenes and very accruate depiction
of political behind the scenes stuff that influenced the outcome.

The Graf Spee film in the Uk was entitled "Battle of the River Plate" superb film great book too!

The hunt for Red October (Sean Connery).
K-19 The Widowmaker (Harrison Ford).
It's not so much a sub movie - rather a movie about working relationships - but Crimson tide which takes place on a US boomer is a great watch.
Yep Ive seen the movie but personally I prefer the book. For me the film concentrated on the atmosphere (which is good) whereas the book gives you the human aspect as well.
