I care more about realism in the AI and aquadynamics than eye candy but I'll take both.

If my computer has enough power I'd like to see human characters doing things like abandoning ship and manning life boats. The AI could refuse to let you fire on them, just as it won't allow shooting at friendly ships. If there was a provision for picking up survivors there would be a reason to learn more about maneuvering. There could be points for picking up survivors.

just my opinion you understand but arent people taking this argument for realism just a little too far?

yes crew members did things on ships but how far do you go? do you introduce barrel changes in 40mm bofors which take 5 members of crew and are difficult on rolling seas

how about showing resupply crew bringing ammo from magazines to ready use lockers or chinese laundry guys fishing off the back end no matter what is going on

perhaps the catering staff bringing round action snacks during a lull in the action?

how about the huge cloudes of smelly smoke every time you fire the bofors so that your view of the target is blocked? the possibilities are endless

i say accept it as it is and use the ships as a platform for playing the game and never mind what the crew are doing

There is always room for improvement. The level of graphics effects the level of immersion. I was happy playing a sub sim that didn't even have 3d graphics, but i would prefer to have the highest detail possible.

-Lucky there aren't people fishing off the back of my sub because I would get distracted and join them.

I like the idea of lifeboats, remember they don't neccesarily have people in them. They'd just get lowered and rowed around a bit after you issue the "abandon ship" command. Same with boarding other ships, just lower a dingy, sail it back and fourth until you've got the supplies. I don't like how the instant you get within 50m of a ship it says "congrats you've boarded..." it shouldn't happen instantaneously.

If there was any crew lazy enough to go fishing, I'd pack 'em in a torp tube and have some salmon for dinner. Never sunk any ships with a worm before. Or maybe I'd just submerge without ringing the bell...
