Northhampton Cruisers

#1
As much as I'd love to see more BC's and BB's, I would like to see cruisers added first. Yeah, their armor sucked, but they were still big enough to do damage. They will also be vital in multiplayer since cruisers were designed to be escorts, being able to escort valuable merchant fleets in MP. Cruisers were expected to protect their charges and defend themselves. Some Cruisers I'd like to see for the USN are the NorthHampton class heavy cruisers. All six of the ships of this class were laid down in 1928 and all were commissioned by 1931, well within the time frame of Enigma. They were designed under the 1921 Washington Treaty which limmited the displacement of heavy cruisers to 10,000 tons, but since that treaty never took place in Enigma, these cruisers may be able to be more powerful than they were originally designed. Their peacetime displacement was 9200 tons, but climbed to 9350 tons during war time, and 14,030 tons fully loaded and extra armor added. Armor was 3 inches along the hull belt, with 2.5 inches around the magazine spaces. The deck was armored with 1 inch plating with 2 inches over the magazines. The barbettes were protected with 1.5 iches, while the gunhouses were faced with 2.5 inches of armor. The cylindrical conning tower was protected with 1.5 inches of armor. It had a maximum speed of 33 knots, and maximum range of 10k nautical miles.

They were armed with three triple 8-inch turrets (two forward, one aft) and eight 5-inch dual purpose guns. Originally, they were armed with .50 cal AA guns for protection during the 30's. These sucked, so they were supplemented with a pair of 1.1 inch (28mm) quad mount machine guns in 1941. These sucked too, so they were replaced with the 20's seen in Enigma, and the 40's also displayed in the game. However, the 40's were mounted in quads, not doubles or the pom pom's on the BC's.

Although their armor was less than that of other ships of its class, such as the Japanese Tone or Magami class heavy cruisers, US torpedoes and bombs sank both Tone class and all four Mogami class cruisers. Image

FYI: I'm only interested in American ships since thats the faction I've chosen to play with in Enigma, and therfore would like to see in the game. Image

This is a small resin model of the ship, its the clearest and most accurate I could find.

To East: I can research any USN ship class with class specs.
