Fun, Teamwork, Fairness, Professionalism

Chaps,

Those four words in the title to this thread sun up the Squadron ethos. They are, if you like, its motto.  Now, there was a moment earlier this evening, as some of you well know, when I, your adjutant, fell so far below the standards of professionalism expected as to be embarrassing.    Those that were not there may have heard rumours (and I think those buggers in TWC have heard of the event and are embellishing it like mad).  The point of this post is by telling the absolute truth to squash any such rumours.

The bald facts are these having landed in the early morning at Bembridge I got lost in the fog/mist.  I was taxiing around for what seemed like ages trying to find our bit of the airfield where I could spawn out safely.  I was also, as a good leader should, desperately looking around for my wingman who seemed even more lost than I was  (which was in fact the case - he wasn't even on the correct side of the runway).  In addition I was also functioning as a mobile TopHat for our own Spitfire Flight and TWC.  I was very busy.  I collided with the ATC Tower by our spawn point, blew the 'plane up and died.

Stories being spread about that I was "tired and emotional" and wholly untrue.  It would be fair to say that, as an Englishman of a certain age and given the real, as opposed to game, time I had of drink taken but I was, to all practical purposes, stone cold sober

Nor have I ever claimed that the ATC Tower jumped out in front of me.

Look I stuffed the ruddy plane into the ruddy tower because I wasn't paying attention to where I was going.  OK?   Now, I don't expect you chaps to take the piss out of me more than three times a day, each.

God Bless

HL
