PLANES, PLANES, PLANES (for 2 squad use)

I know that this will cause some flak, but hey maybe the answers will lie within and help our other pilots. The opinions stated are those of individual pilots not the actual facts of how each plane performs. Every plane will perform differently in the hands of other pilots. What works for some pilots will not work for others unless they adopt that flying style. Variables are always present!

Where to start: SPITFIRE XIV, a good plane, good guns, good armor, good top speed and all altitudes up to 32K. The plane of choice for most pilots in FFA, its just not my choice for 2 squad events. I loath this plane, because of its slow take off speed. Once I get up to altitude I can do very well in it. I've been doing some research and talking with pilots from other squads about using this planes for 2 squad. It seems that my thinking may have been incorrect. Expect a change in game plan. Everyone will have to conform to this so it is advisable that you show up for practice on Sundays before the matches.

The BF-109K4: Good Speed, Good Armor, Good Guns, Poor turn fighting ability, Phenomenal climbing and diving. This plane for some reason is where I get the most kills during a 2Squad match. I have no reason on why, except that I learned a few things along the way. My kill ratio went up drastically when I started zooming and booming the hill by the SU base. I also noted that the week I had a few pilots that showed up for a practice when we did this that we almost one one half of a match. I think that this is directly related to the practice we did zooming and booming the hill. We called in, off, location, and just the pertinent information. It worked! Now, it looks like we are returning back to our old ways of turn fighting. Time to get back to basics!

LA7: Good Speed at altitudes under 15K, Great Guns, Fair armor, good turn fighter, good climbing ability. I like this plane because it can almost climb as fast as a BF-109, but when it stalls, it will take forever to get it to fall and turn to get your energy back up. MOST of the time all you will hear is BOOM! When this happens your dead if chasing a K4. If you Chase a K4 UP you had better get some hits in it quick because if you don't you are dead meat in the LA7. I use this plane to chase the GE planes on scramble. I can get to them fairly quick and tease them a little and get them to chase me around as long as I have a good wing man to keep an eye on things. The object is not to really engage the GE planes, but to get them chasing me and keep them from gaining a lot of altitude while my GB plane are doing just that, getting alt. So far, its not working as well as I would like it, but then again I don't have a wing man either. lol

YAK 3: Well I'll make this short, a great turn fighter, fair speed, fair guns, bad armor. I can take this plane and do very well in it. I have gotten a couple of first kills in it when Strife was flying with me as my wing man, He has also done the same. You just don't want to get hit in this planes. You have to have a wing man that can watch your six if you fly this one. I also use this one to chase the GE planes. As long as you can dodge the bullets it's ok. Don't expect to live long in this one.

P-51: I laugh at myself about this one. good speed up to 40K , fair armor, fair turn fighter, poor guns. I like he P-51, Just not for 2 squad matches. In my first 2 squad match as C/O I had everyone fly the P-51 as a change for pace. I figured that we would pull a fast one and surprise the enemy. They where surprised all right. We got pounded in to dust, lol. I probably wouldn't hurt to throw one or two of these up during a match, but why do it when you have the K4. I like to fly this plane because it is a challenge, but it actually make me better flying other planes. Here is the difference, you can take a Spit 14 and throw it around just about anyway you want. With the P-51 use a light hand. It has 3 levels of flaps. Go into battle with the firat level already down and leave there until the battle is over. You can use the other 2 levels but don't come out of the first level until all is clear.

FW-190: Great guns, great low level speed in the weeds, high roll rate, poor turn fighter, good armor. Once again, why use this plane when you have the K4. This was supposed to be one of the most advance fighters during WWII, Unfortunately the creators of the game didn't know this. The advantage with this plane is only one that I can see. On a head to head you can out roll your enemy. If at ground level you can also chase down any plane trying to get away, unless he turn quickly.

Ok boys and girls, theres some of my observations. Lets hear yours.

Thanks Joker,

If you don't mind i will copy my other post in here again about this topic i wrote on the other thread, since i wrote my observations about each plane already so i don't have to write it all again on here also because the other thread soon or later may get moved to the archive forum.

Spit is my #1 all time favorite, i think i do turn-fight very good with it (specially after being warmed up enough with this plane for at least 1 hour flying time the same day) and specially against another spit. but i do beat 109k many times using my spit.

but when the enemy plane is 109k or la-7 he only have armor advantage and gun/cannon damage against me, but i still can turn-fight very good against la-7 even tho it's a light weight.

Yak 9 is #2 favorite, for me, it has a very comfy cockpit specially in F4 padlock, i can also turn-fight very good with it but the only disadvantage is weak armor and guns.

La-7 i'm not yet sure, i still need more flying hours with LA-7 to get the feel of it and decide. but i do turn-fight good with this plane and i like the bad damage it cause by it's cannons.

109K i'm still practicing it specially zoom and boom, but sometiems i do good job with it against another 109k. but for me flying 109k against another spit i get worried cuz of the bad turn-fight abilities for 109k. but i still love it cuz of it's strong and almost excellent armor and guns/cannons, and i really enjoy flying it for exploding other planes lol *Sweet Revenge* *Evil Laugh* :-P

Hurricane (the flying fortress!!!) as i call it, i love it cuz of the heavy damage it cause to other planes, and very good armor (i think! better armor than 109k?), and also for its very far shooting range ( i can pick other planes and shoot them down like flies from a far distance and i'm still safe cuz their planes still can't shoot that far at me), but its sooooooooo heavy so i can't risk flying with it in 2 squad and LTS matches. it's only good in FFA specially when u spawn, and dive on a furrball.

and on this part, which plane you mean please, 109K4 or FW-190?

also i want to list order those 4 planes by looping/climbing skills:

i would say..

1. LA-7

2. 109K4

3. Spitfire

4. FW-190

any corrections?

Thank you

Trust me the developers knew everything about the capabilities etc of each plane. The thing to keep in mind is we fly "arcade" mode and not realistic mode. Another BIG factor of the game is software .. and that software has a control panel and configs that allows the "host" to change parameters, maps, versions, etc. Our host decided the P51 would be one of the worst planes...

side comment:

The 109 was one of the most advanced at the onset of WWII in the 1940's .. but not near the end of the war in the 44's.. Remember that the 109 LOST the Battle of Brittan. German pilots were GOOD, so there is reason for the loss ... the Spitfire? I'm pretty sure the "most advanced plane" honor went to the P51 Mustang later in the war years 44-45.
