Need Help Sinking Subs! Please!

Anyone -

I just bought the game and can't seem to sink a sub. I have searched this site for clues and have seen some but nothing for the newbie. Do I drop my depth charges when I'm right over them, or when they are on my bow, or stern? Is there any recommended depth to start with? And what is the three buttons that indicate " -0 m -5m -10m "? Do the charges go off +/- your chosen depth? HELP!
