I saw and played this game for the first time at a friend's house over the weekend, and just had to order it as soon as I got home. What swayed me more than anything was reading the forums and seeing the on-the-spot responses from the dev team. This kind of attitude is about as rare as rocking horse poo, so even if the game hadn't been superb I'd still have been tempted to support it.
Just waiting for that delivery from play.com now..... See you in the water!

Wait until you play the instant missions with the destroyerMAN those guns are amazing when fired broadside and the action is pure movie with like over a dozen ships exchanging fire. i just had to replay, replay, replay it's so good.
Yup - saw the link and noticed the ?7 difference between this and amazon.co.uk - thanks m8! I played a couple of training games with Huntsman-class destroyers (LFN) which got very manic and ended up with me in Davey Jones's Locker. I then tried the first mission in a campaign (Corvette escorting two oilers). Despite three or four depth-charging runs I failed to get the sub, but it was great fun dodging the torps and banging away with the 4-incher at the periscope.
Stuff I loved at first sight - the modelling on the destroyers and corvettes, the audio when firing main guns, and the rolling sea! I've been waiting for someone to do a good job of this since Aces of the Deep (now, if only someone would do an updated GeForce 4 version of that classic game).
Cool! i've done someone a favour! That's my good deed done for today
To be honest i have spent the past week playing the SP missions -trying to hone tactics etc instead of throwing myself in the deep end of the campaign.
I have never played a ship sim before so it's a *whole new* ball game for me
It's hard searching and sinking subs but boy is it bloody cool when you do!Some lovely touches put in like floating debris, oil cans and the like floating on the surface when you crack open a sub -doesn't happen all the time. pretty clever stuff.
Other things i like are the rain, turn your sub around into the wind and you'll hear the rain drumming on the roof of the coning tower -turn away and you'll just hear wind and splashes.
Other small *simple* touches are the reflection of the rear props on the sub -nice
