Brilliant Book On The Battle Of The Atlantic

I'm reading Black May by Michael Gannon - I can heartily recommend this book as a fascinating, detailed, yet at the same time very human story of the defeat of the U-boats in May 1943. Great ERT inspiration stuff, with access to German, US and UK records, forensic style review of battle reports, eyewitness accounts, eavesdropping bug transcripts of captured U-boat crew talking about a mid-ocean collision, life on board Flower Class corvettes and much more!

Grab it if you can - it's really something.

Great recommendation Smithcorp - its now at the top of my booklist. I just finished the BBC book of the TV series 'The Battle of the Atlantic' by Andrew Williams which was also full of first hand accounts and a great read.

Have just got back into the Douglas Reeman novels too. I read a load of these in my late teens and he's published a load more now so i'm catching up. Currently reading 'Killing Ground' by him which is set on a destroyer escorting the Russian convoys - lots of action and very gritty stuff.

Another good read last month was 'Luck on My Side - The diaries and reflections of a youndg wartime sailor 1939-45' by John Palmer. All about his time on the flower class corvette HMS Clematis, the frigate HMS Exe and and the sloop HMS Amethyst - fascinating read.
