Furry Tanking Tips

#1
Rotation/abilities for Single & AoE tanking (from EJ forum, more detailed info here)
  • Keep Demoralizing Roar up.
  • Mangle on cooldown.
  • When Berserk procs, use Mangle. Always.
  • If tanking an AoE pack, use Thrash and Swipe on cooldown*.
  • Maul as rage allows.
After that, make sure Lacerate is up on your single target and stack it to 3 stacks. Once you're comfortable with that, start using Pulverize to keep up your crit self-buff. But don't do that at the cost of letting Lacerate not be in your target for a while, since you need those dot tics to proc Berserk for more free Mangle with refreshed cooldown.

*Bux's note: I use Swipe before Thrash as it has a lower rage cost hence sometimes easier to do at the start of a fight. I find the following macro helps. NB, as of patch 4.1 Swipe is apparently getting its CD reduced to 3s, so you might want to change it to reset=3.

Code: Select all

#showtooltip
/castsequence reset=6 Swipe(Bear Form),Thrash
Use of the Berserk talent on packs of 3 mobs is awesome, or on boss pull to get a huge threat lead. Only save the cooldown if you really need it later for a specific phase with adds you'd like to cleave into. Bux - sadly, we are likely to lose the fear break/immunity which this bear will sadly miss.

A note on gearing

Generally speaking you want to look for the highest item level agility gear you can find. This is because armor and stamina directly correlate with item level. Agility jewelery is better than even perfectly itemised strength tanking jewelery. You'll want to reforge haste/hit/expertise to dodge, mastery or crit. A quick list for stat priority is:
  • Stamina > Agility >> Dodge Rating > Mastery > Crit > Hit > Expertise > Haste
NB I you want to gem for a hybrid set, prioritise Agi over Sta and gem for Mastery in your yellow slots.
