Tips For The Mc205

Hello all,

I've listed below some tips for the MC205 based on my experience with flying it....I hope that this will be of use to some of you.

-Set prop pitch to 85-90% and leave it. The Greyhound will turn from an "also runs" to an aircraft that has substantial speed and good acceleration; nearly matching a Mustang.

-Fight at 15K+....especially against Spits....drag a Spit up to about 25-28K and the Greyhound will out-perform it in nearly all aspects other then the turn fight (and is capable of turning with a Spit with a notch of flaps out). If the Spit wants to turn-fight that high, let him. He'll bleed off his airspeed very fast and you can fall in on him and rip him up.

-The Greyhound will dive with the best of them; important parts don't start coming off till you exceed 650mph TAS. This means you can dive away from most other aircraft, other then the P-47.

-Watch your fuel gage! No self-sealing tanks on this bird; you will bleed out like a stuck hog if you have a fuel leak, and it won't take long to do it. Always take 100% in a fight. If you take a hit and start bleeding fuel....run home...what you have left will not last long (10 min at best).

-Use the combat flaps....the Greyhound will turn very tightly with them if you have some speed up. If you are in trouble dump out combat flaps and pull hard up! you will climb like a scalded cat and more often then not get out of the line of fire if you time it right. It'll give you a chance to extend and get out of harm's way to gain a better position.

-The Greyhound cannot take alot of punishment...especially in the wings. If your wings are holed, it's time to leave! You have pretty much lost your turning ability. There is no trim other then elevator trim.

I ran a Co-op mission with the Fiat G.55 last night as well and I have listed my impressions of it below for your reference.

-Two words sum the Centauro up...."holy sh*t!" This plane is a real hot-rod! Climbs every bit as well as a KI-84 but bleeds off speed a little faster. Very good firepower with 3ea 20mm cannons and 2ea .50 cal MG's. Both weapons have a round counter in the low center of the 'pit just in front of the stick. 250rnds for the 20mm and 350 (or so) for the .50's, which is more then enough to give several planes a pretty bad day. 17 Japanese planes met their doom at my hands last night, all veteran AI.

-It dives very well and gains speed quickly....however I do not yet know what it can take speed-wise. I do know that it will handle 400mph IAS in a dive with ease and will pull a hard climb with no problems.

-Roll rate is pretty good; nowhere near the rate of a 190 or spit, but a bit better then a 109 I think...I was able to keep up fairly well with a KI-84 in rolls.

-with a bit of speed up she will turn extremely tightly...with some speed I was able to easily turn inside a KI-84 and stitch it up with 20mm from nose to tail. Very good stalling characteristics with a good bit of warning before it tries to spin and is easy to recover it.

My overall impressions are that the G.55 is more then a match for anything in the hands of someone that has some experience with Italian fighters. I can hardly wait to take it up for high alt bomber escort or intercept as the service ceiling is reported to be in the area of 42K which is as high as a TA152.
