Usn Sub Mission #3

#1
During dusk when the moon was just coming over the horizon I took notice of 4 CV's and 2-3 DE's heading to my coordinates at All Ahead Full. I tried staying low...didn't help ....blending in w/ the ME's...that didn't work either....how about fighting on the surface then ducking under the waves....that's a certain fatal demise for my crew. I tried shooting my way out...but that was futile.

I'm beginning to think that there needs to be another patch for this game. My sub is too sluggish at 12 Knots. The CV's and DE's just sit above me and drop endless amounts of depth charges on top of my crew and I. (Doesn't the AI ever run out of those? I know I would).

Anyway, does any of you mates have advice/tips for US Navy Sub mission #3?

My crew and I send our deepest grattitude from 200m below the ocean waves.

Signed,

Capt Xavier Trebrook Image

I've learn the hardway: got sunk a lot of times. But actually diving to 200 m doesn't save your ass for long, maybe you'll just avoid the first CV droping DC, but not the next. Actually I fir a torp on the CV just befor she does her DC run, usualy she tries to avoid it and so she isn't any more running over U to drop the DC. Anyway keep trying you'll soon found your own tips...

Good luck and good hunting

It's been 16 Days since my last post about this mission and I'm really frustrated w/ USN Mission #3. It is supposed to be a "Low Risk" mission. What gives? At the very beginning of the mission I'm doing fine, but then the DE's and CV's come straight after me. This misson makes no sense. How can it be a low risk misison w/ all those escorts? I haven't even launched any fishes at the oilers and the LFN is trying to kill me at the very beginning. If I try to hide, they kill me. If I run away..they come after me and kill me. If I try to blend in w/ the merchants...they kill me.

Any comments/suggestions? Image

Well I got in the middle of the convoy, launching torpedoes in both directions. I managed to sink 1 or 2 CV's aswell as all the oilers. Sure it took me a while to finish the mission but this game does take perserverance.

The CV's for some reason couldn't find me, but the main problem I faced was getting run over by merchant ships, which happened twice ;)

Sorry Xavier ,, This is the " Lionfish " mission / campaign isn't it ?

There are three Oilers in the convoy , sink them , you win .

Rise to periscope depth . ( Now remember you can pause the game , so choose , either to take another look on tactical , whilst paused , and close to periscope depth , or , take a quick look thru 'scope , and then see what is on your tactical . - pausing game then , to give you some time to take stock of positions etc ) You don't need to use pause , but maybe play it that way first .- Because you are so long at that mission - you will exhaust our charges ! Now , When you look you will see where the three oilers are . When you begin , and at depth , they do not show .

Now you can sink them . Use your stern tubes as well . Conserve torpedoes . Dive to avoid collisions , to about 25 minimum . Fire from 30ish ,, under merchants , at an Oiler behind ! Do that if they are in line , and the merchant is in the way . Or : just sink it anyway , if you can sink the Oiler too , but you might need that torpedo , if another Oiler gives a chance to sink it . Any warships .. if they look like they are getting very close .. Firing just ONE torpedo towards will deflect them . Usually . Conserve torpedoes for the three Oilers .

As you rise :: Pivot . You can at the one third speed - which will be normal , unless , and until you say " Ahead flank " etc ... Usually pivotting at the third speed , as you rise in this mission , gives you enough time to point in direction of the convoy. It is best , to point about 270 degrees. That is , just to the North side of the convoy , probably One Oiler will slide around to your North , from your starboard , quarter . Use stern tube . Use two even ! Make sure THAT one is gone ! Use three ! Now . Just go get those other TWO . !

Seems again they design this game to be one sided, after all the ships I sunk I ran out of batteries and had to surface in which the planes got me. Funny how I get low on batteries or air or for that matter fuel but the planes just have all the fuel in the world to hang around. I paid for this game and will some day finish it.

The German sub has a couple of missions that are almost impossible to win unless you get very lucky and some missions make no sense what so ever as this mission.

It says risk is low, it may be if you high tail it out of there because as soon as you come up they are all over you.

How about some reward for sinking 15 ships like not having the planes hanging around.

Love the game but poor AI will look for another game that is close to this but with less frustration

(USS LIONFISH) Keep out of sight and follow the tankers. Find out where they're going. Standing orders say sink any LFN oilers you encounter.

21:45:11 - Destroyed M116 with a torpedo ENE at 2400 meters.

21:46:20 - Destroyed M115 with a torpedo E at 2100 meters.

22:03:03 - Destroyed by B132, hit with an iron bomb

22:04:02 - Mission failed at 18.24.24N, 84.17.52W

Planes Destroyed: 0

Ships Sunk: 15

Total Tonnage Sunk: 61820

Bad news. We'd hoped Lionfish could carry out such simple orders. Every batch of LFN oilers that escapes works against us. Today's failure will cost lives. Bet on it.
