The following is something that went over our broadcast email system that presents several problems we need to address. Right off the top however let me post his email .. however you all received a copy by the mailer system
I deleted this message then just saw it again.
Some months ago it may well have been six or more, I was interested in

joining BBS.

Within only a few days I was receiving emails with a really negative

tone about people not turning up for this and that. The tone was so bad

I have not even flown air attack since.

These emails where BBS generated and I realised that AA had

unfortunately lost its appeal to me as a game. I was very keen to get

back in after 3-4 years away.

I used to fly with Swarm, They where not the greatest however it was all

about the game.

Quote - > " ARE YOU GUYS DEAD OR WHAT!!!" I think you may well be.

Just food for thought.

I don't have the original email sent out that this gentleman refer's too. I keep a lot of the squad correspondence.. but not all.

I have replied to said gentleman .. presented a different "impression" and asked that he contact our CO and give it another go. This guy is from Australia and his pilot name was Aharrya.

1) Problem 1

First off as a regular member of the BSS I recall that email from Joker address to the squad and did NOT see it so negative as Mr A did. However considering Mr A was new to our squad.. from his eyes I can see his point of view to some degree.

When we are really "passionate" lets not send out the email just yet. Save it .. read it in an hour or two. Tone it .. then send it out.

As a small squad where we were all 'tight' these types of passionate emails where not a problem and in some cases good for the squad. Now we are growing and seem to always have someone new on the list .. so lets be more careful about the "impressions" we project.

Also keep in mind .. devious parties .. sometimes forward emails outside the club. Dirty and rotten those type people are .. but we want to make sure some email of ours does not show up out in public for some reason..

2) Problem 2

This pilot was left on our mailing list .. and that is why he was able to send that email to the entire squad!

We must.. we must keep our mailing list in proper order. Remove. . removed pilots. Add pilots that need to be removed. Keeping these records and all that we do straight is not as easy as it sounds .. its very easy to miss removing or adding a pilot. For this reason I always recommend that TWO squad officers be involved is some manner. Thus they can double check on each other.

3) Problem 3

CLP BSS listings don't sync up with our squad listing and mailer system

Suggested Resolutions:

First off I don't feel this is some MAJOR problem, things like this just come up and we simply need to share the info .. be aware .. and learn. We move forward.

1) Get Burton involved with the CLP side as well as the BSS side of administration. Expose and give access to Burton to the BSS mailer system .. train and let Burton "double check" that listing once a month.

2) Review the CLP BSS listing .. clean it up. Give pilots notice they need to correct their information ASAP as it affects the league validation of pilots name system , etc. Not to mention keeping our records correct :)

3) When we send out emails .. lets be more aware how the "innocent' and "unknowing" might perceive said email. Also folks have feelings and may sometimes think .. an email is directed at 'them'. Also.. lot of BSS folks are not up to date and aware of how mailer systems work, so we need to keep that in mind at times.

4) consider a habit I have in other areas .. which is not to put the text of my email .. in the email :) What I do is address the email to the squad and simply put a link to our forum topic .. let them read it on the forums. This method expose's them to the 'real Bss' and forces them into the forums to see .. all. Not just one bad side.. but all the good as well. I'll send out an example of this today .. so when you read it YOU will know it was really an example for US .. but squad members will simply respond. Lets see what happens :)

Storm in a tea cup IMHO.

Over reaction from a sensitive soul, I do wonder what he thinks of a game where the goal is to despatch peeps with canons, one where your e-soul is 'reset' many times.

I think your responses were good and its all over, squad do not seem at all bothered, and I haven't heard any comments in the game. And to be honest I think at the moment BSS Squads 'stock' is high within AA and we would cruise through this any how.

But, we can learn from it ... I am happy to help, if you guys want to learn me about the email....

PS - I notice that titles to new postings in this CO/XO forum appear in the search results when you login and click on "latest posts". Therefore visible to all of TOW, just something to bear in mind.

Recent email received by all from the mailing list: RE: drag0nslice@yahoo.com

I removed from our pilots list: drag0nslice@yahoo.com

This guy was known to us as "KnightHawk".

Its time to review the process .. we are sending out email to "non members"
