Saturday mornings are a dangerous time for me. The pressures of the working week are over and I start to relax. Any secret desire to change the shape of the world seem to seek the light of day on Saturday mornings and I get revolutionary thoughts. My latest thought stems, once again, from recent discussions on the UKAAC site.
I noticed that several posts were from our side of the Atlantic and that some expressed the view that they wanted nothing to do with the USAAC site. This, to me, is disturbing; that members of our own community feel so disenfranchised that they would seek shelter across the sea. I think this needs to be addressed. If folks have issues with what should be their community shouldn?t they air them and isn?t this the place to do so?
Why can?t we have a frank discussion about the nature of the USAAC, it?s make up and what might be perceived to be its weaknesses? There seemed, inter alia, to be a perception that opinions expressed on the USAAC site are censored. I for one would be repelled by any such thing. Oh, I understand there have to be rules about decent behavior and civil discourse but that should never be interpreted as the right to censor a point of view no matter how repulsive it might be to those running the site.
I believe very strongly that no matter how much I may disagree with someone?s point of view I will defend to the death their right to express it. I would hope, therefore, that those who have genuine issues with this community would feel free to discuss them in this forum.
Provided the forum protocols, concerning decency and respect are followed who can be harmed by frank and open debate. Let?s get with it and see where it leads us.

I happen to agree in 'total' with what you are expressed. I have had my own post removed from this board and said post conformed with 'every' set or rules for posting.. i.e. "forum protocol". It was removed for "political" appeasement for those across the pond. Out of respect for the 'position' of the party that took the action .. I made no public complaint.
I think if you take a hard look at the folks that 'won't have anything to do with the USAAC community' .. I think you will find that those people are problem people in all communities. They were never restricted at this community .. not anywhere near what they now have 'moderated' at other communities. I think you will also find that they 'exiled' them self because they didn't like decisions that were made by the USAAC BoD. These people didn't get their way.. so they took their ball and went home.
From a personal observation .. I know of no post or reply that was ever removed or closed .. unless the "forum protocol' was violated. So as to 'why' .. it must be outside the USAAC or mis-conceptions by these folks to make such statements of "nothing to do with the USAAC"??
FD TZU made that statement at a BoD meeting when he didn't like what the Director Kid had to say, and a consensus decision by the BoD . I believe that TZU was speaking for ALL of FD at the time, but only he could answer that question.
Nitro made that statement because Tbar (ToW Club) was making tons of money off hosting the USAAC site.
I know of no one else, although their could be.
I've done my share ...

I have many reasons why, but for starters, losing the Political Ads would be a good start! I and, I am sure many others dont want to come here and see Political Ads. It may be in the interest of TidesofWar and maybe the USA AA BoD but not all have the same views as the Ads displayed either Dem or Rep, forcing a member to view something they dont believe in is bad for support. Since the support you ask for has nothing to do with Gov't Politics.
You know that old saying,
Cancer spreads and must be cut out.
In this case it did and was cut out, now the body regrows perhaps stronger then before but it takes time.

Kind of strange how those ad banners wasnt at bottom of each page in the USA air forums when it first started up on his TIDES OF WAR website. Once everyone made the move over here, and then those ad banner showed up out of no where. Weird huh ? oh well. I know because when I first seen them showing up, thats when i made a post about it long time ago.
But anyway do i like this forum ? No because its not very user friendly. Too many forums within forums. The higher up officals were working on a new USA air attack site, but as you can see they stop caring. So after 2 years this usa air attack been up and running, where are all the USA members ? Most of the posting here been only by the board members.

So far so good. We are getting some feed back on what makes folks dislike the present USAAC site. What it mostly boils down to, so far, is a desire for the community to have its own home; not tied to another organization which may have objectives that conflict with ours. Does that organization have an undesirable hold over us? Is it dictating policy that is not in our interests? I haven't seen it but I do understand the concerns and, perhaps, it is time for serious thought being given to us having a home that is ours and ours alone.
I agree wholeheartedly that ads, poliical or otherwise are undesirable but bear in mind that an ad free site would have to be paid for directly and would, I think, require donations from its members. That would be the cost of independence. How many of you are prepared to go down that road.
Nitro does not think the site is user friendly. If he is right I'm sure that can be fixed. My understanding is that a new webmaster has been recruited from amongst the players; someone with extensive experience and skill in that area. I'm told he has commenced work on a "new look" and that it shows great promise. So, already, it seems we can look forward to some improvement on the user friendly aspect.
As to the administration of the site, it appears to be as democratically conceived as is possible in the circumstances. All the US squads have a say and there is no one person able to over rule their wishes. Like any democratic organization, of course, the majority opinion rules and those in dissent have to live with it.
The main thrust of this topic was what makes members of the US community want to spurn their own community's web site. It looks like there is legitimate cause for their concern. I put it to all of you, however, that the way to get a community that you can be proud of is not to run away but to stay and fight for what you want. I hate to see posts by US members on other community web sites criticizing the way their own community is run. The place to express your issues is right here and I, for one, would fight tooth and nail against any attempt to stiffle such discussion.

We should put moving the site to its own home on the table for discussion.
Main points of interest brought to light here are mainly a " user unfriendly " and a " feeling of tension " and " negative feelings ' of this site from some ( not all ). Like pointed above aome of these people are problematic and just didnt get their way. But in the process some damage might have been done to the process and site and the intentions may very well be misrepresented.
What better way to improve the image than have a new look and a fresher friendlier appearing start. No to say to let problematic people get away with nonsense but change is good sometimes. Especially if it will benefit the masses.
maybe the time is right.
Yes Sir, I believe it is the dissenter who don't get there way who are actually the ones posting in other places to make it seem like things here are so terrible.
Damn Bush for his war! Let me get my protest signs and go find someone who will listen to me. I don't care if the vote didn't go my way. I'm right and that's all that matters. If I can't get what I perceive as justice here, I'll go somewhere else and complain till someone sees it MY WAY!!. By golly that what I call the American Way
Hog Wash!
I like what we have even though I don't agree with everything. Not perfect, but it does work!

Agreed, it does in fact work.
