I need some help. I love driving subs but keep getting slaughtered when attacking convoys. My latest disaster is brit/jap sub mission 2. You start in sight of the escorts, they charge and depth charge me into davey jones locker. How can i survive and kill the convoy, when subs are attacked they try to hide and sneak away but this isnt allowed cos you fail the mision any advice from people (that being pretty much everyone) who is more skilled than me?
Please tell me time limits are being removed in a future update, subs are slow and fragile the need for caution is absolute.
LFN Mission #2 is pretty simple, just stay surfaced, and head right towards the convoy, (head towards the leading ship) with your hatch on hold, ready to dive.
If you want you can shot a round or 2 of your torps from distance, and hope you get 1 or 2 of the T's
When you start taking fire from them, then go to scope depth, up with the tactical scope, and sink them 1 by 1. (still at FLANK speed) while turning hard to face them).
When I played this mission just under 1 hour ago, with this technique, the CV's didnt know what to do, they sailed around me ~2.5KM away, to get behind me, and they never caught up again.
Thanks Jesper im gonna go try it. Guess im just a bit too cautious. Getting well ahead and waiting silenty is more my style, bad habit from Silent Hunter II i guess.
Not a bad habit, Crunch; a good and historically accurate one. Enigma tactics aside, a sub in this time period would never have attempted a surface attack of an escorted convoy after being sighted. The two circumstances in which surface attacks were employed (and even then, somewhat controversially) were at night or when the target was unescorted and clearly outgunned, such as an enemy merchant capable of radioing in the sub's position.Guess im just a bit too cautious. Getting well ahead and waiting silenty is more my style, bad habit from Silent Hunter II i guess.
I, too, have found it difficult to embrace the habit of steaming flank-speed, rigged for dive, at DE's with their guns blazing - it is one of the things that keeps Enigma so lively, however...
