How To Aim With Pt Boats?

Esteemed experts
I have been trying the EASY PT Boat mission to try and get used to these beasties ... However' date=' I do not seem to have targetting binox or any other assistance for the torps ... is this a problem with my usage or setup or, if not, how is one supposed to aim torpedoes?

If it really is dependent on a visual estimation, is there some info available as to torpedo running speeds, min/max range, etc?

Thx for any help[/quote']
Only thing you should know is that you cant "aim" them' date=' they are in 1 angle only, I think its 15degrees (I cant remember).
The trick is to speed up to 40knots and head straight towards the enemy (zig zag to avoid getting hit and sunk), when youre close enough you should launch your torps.

I might be a good idea to play some of the patrol/training missions to get a hold on how the boat reacts.

Remember the smarter the enemy is the close you have to get in on him/her, so he/she doesnt evade your torpedos :)

Im sure some of the surface commanders has a couple more tricks ;)[/quote']
Im a surface commander and you have said it all as far as Im concerned. It is a rock n roll ride to target then a good guestimate is required. Then after launch just concentrate on yur rock n roll ride out of harms way again
ooops  yeah I forgot to say its NOT a good idea to stick around and watch the fireworks' date=' incase you fail  :P[/quote']

when going against destroyers, ive found the best tactic to be run a wide path perpindicular to the destroyer spiraling in gradually with a couple zigs or zags, but while not heading directly at the dd you are much more of a moving target to them, harder to hit even though you get to them a bit slower. when close enough and on either of their sides, pull a figure-8, first pulling out of the spiral and curving outwards and then crossing your original path curving slightly with the path of the dd that is moving at full speed, while in your sights, release the torps at set intervals (depending on how far away from the dd you are and how fast its moving). i get close enough to get hit with mg fire but they cant hit me with anything bigger than that. the same tactic works with tankers, but its a little harder because they are in formation, making it harder for you to be a hard target to each and every one of them. the corvette is a different story, it just moves too fast for this, i had to end up spiraling around it and ramming it, setting throttle full back and dropping fish as i went. wasnt very fair to those fellas, but oh well, i was still floating and they werent. cant wait for multiplayer, its going to be a blast

Don't have the game yet but just played Technology Demo A and this thread helped me pass the 2nd level for the first time, allowing me to play the BATTLE level, which I won (after 2 initial failures angel2: ).

While starting out heading towards the destroyer perpendicularly, it always turned head-on towards me. Veering to port and starboard (using S and F keys) spared me a lot of hull damage.

What I did was when I was very close, heading straight on, I would cut from one side of the destroyer's bow to the other, then turn back enough to fire torpedos at very close range, then veer out again away from the destroyer and come around almost 360 degrees, then veer away in the oppsoite direction of the turn I was in to fire the other side's 2 torps, also at close range.

I don't think the AI in that mission hit the destroyer. My 4 torps sent it down.

This calls for a celebration! cheesburga: buxton:

if you're in SP you can pause and line up 3rd person view with your torp tube, for the US model I think it just goes striaght. Online you can not pause and use voice to go in a figure 8 while you get 3rd person set up, or you can turn the camera fifteen (?) degrees to the left in first person, that's your line of fire for the first two, and 15 (?) to the right for the second two (LFN). Not sure about US angle.
