Using Orders

#1
I'd forgotten about orders until I started losing, they can make a real difference.
Eg:

if you have to protect something, use a Wait order to send them out of harms way.  (click on the vessel, click the wait button and then click where you want them to go on the BTAC)

if you're about to enter a large battle, open the b-tac on a reasonable range so you can see almost all the craft, wait for 1 'radar' swing and pause (hit P).  You can then check out the oppostion, get to learn about your own fleet and then plan your attack.  It gives you a little thinking time and you can send your own fleet elements into the enemy in a structured manner.  You can assign orders whilst the game is paused.

I've also found in a big battle it's best to hang back a little as your own craft is in some ways equivalent to the King in chess: if you die - game over.  That's not to say you should stay out of the battle completely else it would get boring
Way to go Ribbed, that could be just the kinda advice I been looking for.
