Submarine Problems

#1
I have a problem when captaining a submarine (nice verb I used there ;) In the very first patrol mission, where you can use a sub, you're usually far away from your enemy. If I dive and try to catch up with them, I have no chance. If I stay above water and speed to them, while they shoot me into pieces (nearly), then why use a sub at all? So, while I am so far away, I think my torps don't hit the enemy because it's too far away. Is this possible? Any helps on how to maneuver a sub effectivly?
What faction are you playing ? and what is the mission orders etc..
Is that important? As I said, I was playing the first submarine patrol mission. I don't think that it matters much which faction I choose, there. Why don't you tell me how you use your sub effectivly?
Cause faction does matter, since there is different tips for each sub.
Are you talking abou the Patrol Mission where you have to sink 5 tankers?

I just played it and won in less than 10 mins, here is what I did.

Chose the LFN faction, Stayed surfaced and went FLANK AHEAD towards the tankers, since I have a 4" deckgun and they only have a 3" deckgun, I ordered DEFEND DECKGUNS and as I was approaching I fired a spread of 6 torpedos, when I was within firing range of my 4" I ordered ALL STOP, and was just laying and rolling in the water, whilst my 4" was poundin'em down 1 by 1.

If I had choosen the USS faction I wouldnt have been able to do it this way, cause they have their deckgun mounted on the rear end. (so faction does matter).

If youre not 100% on how/where to aim your torpedos, then you should keep trying this mission, cause there is no enemy warships.

A few tips:

Set Zoom to x1 on your tactical scope.

When firing at tankers at a greater distance than ~1500meter, aim approx 1-1,1/3 ship lenght infront of them. when they are closer then ~1500meter, aim approx 1-2cm (3/4") infront of them.

Hitting a ship at distances over 3500meter is more luck than leetness, so always try to come close to them, even they shoots at you, you dont have to worry, cause if you just wants close so you can practice, do this:

Mission Start:

AHEAD FLANK, (set course towards you targets), RIG FOR DIVE, (as the counter reaches 0 sec, click on the hatch to hold it (it now takes you less than 3 secs to dive)).

Put on your Binocs and keep steering towards your targets (head towards the leader of the convoy), you cant use your eckgun now, since your crew is below deck, and its only oyu on the bridge, but you can bring up your tactical scope and practice surface launching of your torpedos. This is ofcourse a risky way to do it, if there is enemy warships in the area (thats why I asked for mission orders).

When youre either close enough or have taken too many critical hits on your hull, its time to say PERISCOPE DEPTH.

Hope this helped you in your quest for glory  :D

Code: Select all

Sink the entire convoy. Don't let any ship escape.
