Givning Subs A Taste Of Their Own Medicine

Here's A Tactic I've cooked up for killing submarines. The main Way sub kill someone is by firing a torpedo volley from about 300-700 meters away, where even if you know the torpedos are coming you have no hope to dodge them all at such ranges. As such I've found a way to engage subs at 1.5-2.0 KM where torpedos are easily spotted and dodged. While it works well against the AI, human Submariners will probely come up with a tactic to prevent hits from this range.

The basic idea is to use your torpedo rack. Press the little 'B' Button next to your radar display to change it to torpedo control. Each green light is settings for each torpedo. Set the depth on Torpedos for 15 meters (this is parascope depth and as such the depth the AI will always be at from about 2.5KM to 500 Meters) Also set for max speed which still leave you with a range of 6KM. On your left torpedo give it a Gyro angle of 2 degrees to the left and on your right torpedo 2 to the right. Your torpedos are now ready to fire. Now set your rack to either port or starboard. For aiming purpose port fires at your heading - 90 degrees and starboard fires at your heading + 90 degrees. So basicly keep making slight corrects to your course and use the "engage target" voice command to find a bearing on your target. One your projected torpedo path lines up with enemy bearing (within 2 degrees on either side should do it) let loose all three tubes! Wait about 30 seconds depending on range and with any luck, you'll score a kill.

This is a fairly easy, no damage way to engage an enemy submarine. Since you are far enough away to dodge their torpedos and they can't see yours coming, you've got a significant advantage. On US mission 8 where you face 4 RI subs with a DE I sunk all 4 with firing only 24 torpedos. Another advantage of this method is that your torpedo run too deep to hit friendly ships. So you don't have to worry about one of your tankers mindlessly driving into one.
