Theres only 1 thing I can think of, I had this happen to me while playing IL2: Sturmovik Forgotten Battles.

Im assuming your running an EAX card, since most pre assembled computers come with them these days.

1) Check your audio settings on your sound card control panel, make sure you arn't set to something like "colosseum" or anything along those lines because that will cause an echo effect to your computer sound.

2) Make sure your not running Teamspeak, Roger Wilco, or any other voice comms.

Hope this helps at least some.

When I get hit by shells or MG fire, not sure which it is cause it happens when both are hitting me, I get very loud explosion sounds that are way off the scale of anything else. It's very distorted sounding and actually painfull since I'm wearing headphones. My sound card must not be processing these sounds properly or something. It's a SB live. Hopefully the Audigy 2 card I plan on getting will correct this.

umm EAX is built into Audigy2 aswell as in SBLive so that wont fix anything.

As Newb says, its the EAX, Go here to find it: Start->Settings->Control Panel->AudioHQ.

Set the enviroment to Normal or disable EAX.

I meant disabling it in the card's control panel settings.

And, yes, I know both creative cards support EAX, of course.
