Unrecognized Usb Microphone

Hi;
I'm hoping someone can help me out with a tech problem.

I'm still playing the demo, unfortunately, as the full version I ordered direct from GMX (2 months ago) seems to have been lost somewhere between me and Royal Mail. I'm trying to trace it, but meantime...

I purchased a Plantronics DSP-400 specifically to use with Enigma. The device connects to my USB port, rather than my sound card. I can hear the game fine, but when I try to turn the mic on in preferences, it tells me "MicrophoneInit failed." Am I doing something wrong, or will the game only take sound input directly through the card? I know the device works, as I tested it with Window's sound recorder utility. I'm running Windows XP Professional with a 1.6 processor and 512 RAM.

Thanks!
You as anyone else that plays the demo needs the Enigma Speech Engine.
You can find it here
I saw references to the SAPI, but thought that, since the demo was recognizing my voice commands with an earlier, crappy mic/headset, I probably didn't need it. I'm downloading it now to give a try.
BTW, I saw your post about video cards being pricey where you are... if they are cheaper in the states, couldn't you simply have someone in the US buy one for you and send it, or is that against a million laws I've never heard of...?
Actually since I posted that one the price for some cards has dropped drastically... :)
GF4 FX5200 128MB RAM is the same price as in USA.

Now its just a matter of pulling 100 bucks out of the budget :D
