Periscope Shooting

#1
I am currently playing the Brits' Sub Campaingn.
However, when I am on periscope depth I can rarely use my periscope for shooting. I still can not launch my torpedoes, the tube dots remains blank. I thought first it was linked to distance with the target. However I just sank, hit by a corvette, while I was trying to shoot it.

Aiming with no signt is too difficult with limited torpedoes  :D
Cray,
You need to be sure you are using the targetting scope instead of the 'viewing scope'.

You can set a 'gyro' in a torp so that it will turn after leaving your boat and this is +/- 12 degrees (off the top of my head) from the bow or stern (depending on which way you are shooting).  If your targetting scope is pointed outside the range at which you can set a gyro you can't shoot.  You don't need to do anything to set the gyro, it's all done for you - just point the scope where you want to shoot.

This means that you can only shoot at targets 12 degrees either side of the bearing off the bow and 12 degrees either side off the stern.  When you are within the shooting cone the torp lights will be green.  Broadly, you need to be pointed directly towards or directly away from your target.

This may sound complicated but it's been implemented very elegantly in the game.

Good hunting,
