Ship Vs Sub

You cab call me stupid if you like but I can't seem to touch submarines with depth charges. I've had the game two days and have pretty much worked everything out other than that. Any help people?
Oh yeah does anyone know what a hedgehog actually is looks like early anti sub mortar.
That's exactly what hedgehogs are. The main difference is that 'hogs only go off if they actually touch the sub. That's how they get by with a smaller charge than the depth charges. Hedgehogs are great for making the sub break off a close range attack and evade/dive.
As far as sinking the subs you have to try and guess what the sub AI is going to do. In the demos, they seem to behave intelligently at least some of the time (no offense, devs) For example, by watching the way they move and taking into account how long you've held them down, you can guess about what depth they're at. When they shoot fish at you, and you charge them and see the scope go down, take into account how long it takes you to get to their position and estimate how far they could have crash-dived in that amount of time.
Some subs are much harder to nail than others, but some get stupid and run at high speed at periscope depth and make a "wake" on the surface sometimes. This is usually when they are trying to zip past you to make a torpedo run at close quarters from behind. When they do that, ring up flank speed and drop the charges at 20 meters as you pass each other.
If nothing else works, just keep them down long enough to run their air out, then gun them when they break surface. I've done that plenty of times as well
Remember to have all AA guns also keyed onto the sub in this case, as 40mm AA does horrible things to a conning tower!
Thanks Torgen. So educated guesswork and a lot of luck is the order of the day. I think i prefer being on the other end of the periscope!
Your biggest asset in attacking subs it using 1/3 speed inside 1k. You'll find it helps your hydrophone guy a bunch.
Give me ship to ship gunnery any day!
I was playing with the German destroyer today.....oh boy was I having fun!
I just gone done playing the German DD against about 6 PT boats... Boy did I mow those baby's down! So far the German DD is my favorite but I still have to play the Leagues vessels. My least favorite is the U.S. Corvette (what a dog!). I could do better in a raft with a pea shooter!
This game is a blast!!!!!
Hmmm I think I'm doing something wrong. I just tried to command my Flower FF against U5 U-Boat being ... sunked. No chance to hit it with the depth charges, but forcing the sub to go up, hitting it 10 times with my gun, shelling it with my hedhehog, ramming it (effecdtively ending stick on its periscope!!!!!!) and ... getting a torp hit from zero range.
I think there should be something wrong ...
Don't get tunnel vision! It very well could have been another sub using your obsession with the first sub to get into torpedo range and doing you in. I've had that happen more than once. One time I had *two* more subs come after me while I was attacking a third. Dancing in the middle as torps come from three different directions seconds after each other is very stressfull
Sometimes I only notice when I look at the after-action report and notice that the number of the sub that killed me is different than the one I was attacking. Not saying for sure that's what happened with you but it's a possibility.
A question: (I dont have the game only demo) Is it possible (in the full version) to sink subs with subs, when your ennemy isn't at periscope-depth (f.ex. at -100m) ?
Yes if you encounters a sub, you will need to sink it with your subA question: (I dont have the game only demo) Is it possible (in the full version) to sink subs with subs when your ennemy isn't at periscope-depth (f.ex. at -100m) ?
Theres no way two submerged subs would bother shooting at each other during this time period. The chance of hitting has to be around 500-1. Unless you believe films like U-571. Subs would only attack each other if one was on the surface.
If you can get within 300m of a submerged sub (whatever depth) you can torpedo them but if you are very deep you will start your sub flooding and be forced to surface in order to make repairs and survive.
