Basing myself on the demos still but I assume this is true in the retail game:
Everything shows up from the start as either red or green blips. Wouldn't there be cases where you should have to manually identify crafts?

yes there is also "blue" dots (unidentified) but only on Random Patrols.

LOL! I was even thinking of suggesting to use blue as the color for these.
Thanks for the update!
edit: do the blue dots turn to red or green once ID'd? If so, how are they ID'd?

And how are they ID'd as friendly or enemy? By moving within visual range? By cenetring contact in binoc/scope crosshairs? Or manually set by player? The last would be best, as you would pay the price for your own mistake.

Currently they are identifed by your sonar man, I dont know if that will change for MP (could hope that it would like):
Sonarman: Unidentifed contact at xx
You: Verify the contact
Sonarman: I cant, we are too far away
You: Well lets close in on it, to get visual contact
Right now its just your sonar man that identifies it/them.
