Has anyone figured out how to get past this one? It seems to be next to impossible, since you?re outnumbered about by 2 to 1 and they got a battleship taking out ships before you can turn your engines on. Seeing all that red in the chat box is getting depressing.

I think this mission is more difficult than it should be because the player is supposed to have been given command of a full fledged Fletcher class DD back in mission 8. Instead we're stuck with a weaker Buckley class DE all the way through to mission 10.
In mission 10a you're supposed to save at least half your convoy. I've tried a number of ways to finish this level - no luck yet.
I've tried charging in towards the enemy lead destroyers, while concentrating my firepower with my friendlies, guns ablazing and torps wooshing. Sank two enemy DDs before being sunk by other DDs.
I've tried hanging back among the convoy ships, behind the friendlies, adding my meager firepower where I could. However the battleship quickly blows apart any defensive line and it becomes a race to sink convoy ships with the player's DE doing solo rear guard action. Those 15" shell are instant death to us tin can drivers.
I've even tried sinking those submarines at the front of the convoy. I might get one or two but one of two things usually happen: I'm sunk by friendly fire from American PBYs flying in to sink the subs or I get a lose message saying I've failed my country.
Go figure. My two cents.

Odd - I am in command of a Fletcher DD in this mission. Its still not any easier. Although I'm gonna keep replaying it until I get a good long look at the BB.

If i remeber right what i did for 10a was stay with the convoy dont go after the ships...i think i sunk one enemy ship the whole time just keep them away from the convoy.
After the alotted time and not more then half your ships are sunk...it doesnt matter how many are left you did your duty...CONVOY PRTECTED.
This worked for me at least.

I got thru it and sunk two destroyers. In the Fletcher DD.
I basically used torpedos, alot of them. I set a swerving course in the same general direction as my convoy, but swerved from port to starboard to lay down a spread of torpedos as they became ready. I also never held course for more than 10-20 seconds, even if all I changed was a 5 or 10 degree heading. I made sure I didn't steam directly away from the enemy, nor did I stay on a perpendicular course to them any longer than it took to loose my torpedos, after which I immediately turned away again. I varied speed from full to flank, never slower. The entire time I was under fire, but I beleive I minimized the amount of damage I took by doing the above. I never made myself the nearest target to the pursuing force, and I
never charged them or even turned into them.
All that being said, there
is some luck to it, because if you draw the attention of the BB and can't get yourself out of range, kiss your ship goodbye. If the BB tags you, goodnight, one hit from the 15inchers and you're done. Just hit esc and restart.
You can tell when the BB is firing on you I think: the shells seem to have a much flatter arc incoming. If that's happening - pour on the speed, and duck in among the convoy - they'll be happy to suck up some fire for a warhero.
